## Select the target platform

`xtool dev build` accepts a target triple for iOS, tvOS, macOS, or Mac Catalyst:

| Platform | Example target triple | Swift package deployment platform |
| --- | --- | --- |
| iOS | `arm64-apple-ios` | `.iOS("17.0")` |
| tvOS | `arm64-apple-tvos` | `.tvOS("17.0")` |
| macOS | `arm64-apple-macosx` | `.macOS("14.0")` |
| Mac Catalyst | `arm64-apple-ios-macabi` | `.macCatalyst("17.0")` and `.macOS("14.0")` |

For example:

```bash
xtool sdk status --triple arm64-apple-tvos
xtool dev build --configuration release --triple arm64-apple-tvos
```

The status command fails if the installed Darwin SDK lacks that target or its SDK directory.
Add `--build-metadata` to print the recorded SDK, platform, and Xcode build values as JSON.
Rebuild an older Darwin SDK to add the new target definitions. tvOS targets are included only when
the supplied Xcode installation contains the corresponding Apple TV SDKs. Mac Catalyst uses the
MacOSX SDK and its `System/iOSSupport` framework, header, and library paths. The SDK artifact retains
Xcode's `Contents/version.plist` as `xcode-version.plist` for consumers that need build provenance.
Linux builds stamp SDK, platform, and Xcode `DT*` values from those retained SDK metadata files into
the app and its extensions. Missing required provenance causes an error instead of fabricated build values.
Its `.macCatalyst` deployment version controls compilation; `.macOS` supplies the separate
`LSMinimumSystemVersion` value in the bundle's `Info.plist`.

`xtool dev build --print-supported-platforms` prints the platform names without building or requiring
an installed SDK. This reports xtool's packaging capabilities; use the SDK status command to check
the SDKs actually available on a machine.

Linux builds explicitly pass the recorded SDK version to the linker so the executable's
`LC_BUILD_VERSION` reports the SDK used to build it, independently of the minimum deployment version.
Mac Catalyst on Linux requires LLD 23 or newer to handle arm64e macOS libraries reexported by the
Apple SDK. Set `XTOOL_LD64_LLD` to an absolute path to an updated `ld64.lld` executable to override
the installed toolset's linker. The SDK status command checks this prerequisite for Catalyst targets.

macOS and Mac Catalyst produce a `YourApp.app/Contents` bundle with `MacOS`, `Resources`, `Frameworks`,
and `PlugIns` directories as needed. Their `Info.plist` is in `Contents`. These apps are left unsigned;
apply entitlements and sign them with a macOS-capable signing tool. `--ipa` and automatic development
signing are unavailable for these bundles. Automatic development signing remains limited to iOS.

macOS and Mac Catalyst apps with Swift package resource bundles require SwiftBuild, selected
automatically with Swift 6.4 or newer. Native SwiftPM builds of these apps fail with a diagnostic
because their generated `Bundle.module` accessor cannot find resources in `Contents/Resources`.
This restriction includes package resources used only by an app extension. Desktop apps without
package resource bundles, including those with only `xtool.yml` resources, can use native SwiftPM.

These target and bundle rules do not add an Xcode project importer, an asset-catalog compiler, or an
App Store distribution workflow. Target-specific frameworks, compiled resources, signing, and store
acceptance still require validation with the actual Apple SDK and destination platform.

## Change your bundle ID

You can update your app's bundle ID by editing the `bundleID` field in `xtool.yml`.

P1 Badge Pass the accepted simulator names to ld64.lld

On Linux iOS or tvOS simulator builds, Packer now emits these values in -platform_version whenever the installed SDK supplies a version. The ld64.lld --help signature is -platform_version <platform> <min_version> <sdk_version>, but direct checks with LLD 21 and Ubuntu LLD 20 show that ios-sim and tvos-sim are rejected as malformed platform, while ios-simulator and tvos-simulator pass platform parsing. The SDK's current pre-23 linker therefore aborts these builds at the final link; return the long simulator platform names here.

P2 Badge Select versioned triples with the normalized SDK key

On Linux native-SwiftPM builds with a deployment-bearing newly supported triple such as arm64-apple-tvos17.0-simulator, this normalization is used only for xtool's metadata lookup: the invocation still passes raw triple to --swift-sdk, while SDKBuilder registers only arm64-apple-tvos-simulator. swift build --help describes that argument as a Swift SDK filter, and a direct probe reports No Swift SDK found matching query for the versioned key while accepting the normalized key, so the extracted triple minimum can never build. Use the normalized selector and account for its normalized native output directory, or pass the requested compiler triple separately.

P2 Badge Accept vendor-prefixed LLD version output

On Ubuntu and other systems with vendor-prefixed LLD builds, a valid XTOOL_LD64_LLD override is rejected: /usr/bin/ld64.lld-20 --version here prints Ubuntu LLD 20.1.8, and the same valid format with major 23 still fails this guard because token zero is not LLD. Catalyst users pointing the documented override at a distro ld64.lld-23 consequently still receive the “requires LLD 23” error; locate the LLD version after an optional vendor prefix instead.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Parse the LLD version when the output starts with a vendor prefix.

majorVersion accepts only output whose first word is LLD. Distro and vendor builds put a prefix before it, for example Ubuntu LLD 23.1.0 (compatible with GNU linkers) or Homebrew LLD 23.1.0. For that output, words[0] is Ubuntu, so the function returns nil. validate then throws the "requires LLD 23 or newer" error, even though the linker meets the requirement.

This blocks Mac Catalyst builds and xtool sdk status --triple *-macabi for users who set XTOOL_LD64_LLD to a packaged LLD, which is the documented workaround. Find the LLD token anywhere in the output and parse the token after it.

Update majorVersion to locate the LLD token anywhere in the whitespace-separated

token is absent. Preserve the existing major-version parsing behavior and add
coverage for vendor-prefixed output.
