Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Added the ability to star eligible replies, quotes, and mentions directly from individual notifications. Star counts and your starred status are shown for these commits, including in expanded notification groups.
Star controls are available for approved commits and are not shown for grouped notifications, already-starred commits, or pending commits.
Bug Fixes
Ensured clicking a notification’s star button does not open the commit.
Kept star details out of API notification responses.
It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.

Walkthrough
Notification responses now include commit star counts and recipient star state. The inbox renders a star button for eligible, ungrouped reply, quote, and mention notifications.

Summary
Load notification commit star data app/Queries/NotificationGroupsQuery.php, app/Http/Controllers/NotificationController.php, app/Http/Controllers/NotificationGroupController.php, tests/Feature/Controllers/NotificationControllerTest.php, tests/Feature/Controllers/Api/NotificationControllerTest.php, KNOWLEDGE_BASE.md
Notification queries add star counts and recipient star state to associated commits. Inbox and expanded-group tests check this data, while the API test checks that these fields remain absent from its response. The knowledge base describes starring from notifications.
Render star buttons in the inbox resources/js/components/commit-star-button.tsx, resources/js/pages/notification/index.tsx, tests/Unit/NotificationIndex.test.tsx
The button accepts a narrower commit type. The inbox renders it for eligible, ungrouped notifications with commits. Tests cover reply, mention, and quote notifications, and cases where the button is omitted.
dev-null-sh/dev-null.sh#447 — This change adds the requested Star action to reply notifications. The other proposed actions are not included.
Suggested reviewers:xheaven, mnapoli
Merge Risk: Minimal · previous review 4cc5d
The notification star data and inbox controls are consistent across supported paths, with no merge-blocking risk identified.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to 4cc5d
The inbox reuses the existing authenticated star action rather than introducing a separate permission or persistence model. Recipient scoping and server-side authorization remain intact, and no introduced cross-user access or durable-state integrity issue was established. Navigation-time request cancellation remains unverified.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The incremental exposure is authenticated notification metadata and another UI path to an existing user-to-commit star mutation. The inspected paths do not establish a new cross-recipient read capability or additional mutation authority.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — An attacker-supplied notification ID crosses authenticated routing and a recipient-ownership check before group expansion. The members query separately constrains visible notifications to the authenticated recipient. Existing tests expect 404 for another recipient's or an irrelevant notification ID; the PR preserves these controls.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
observed — The existing durable source of truth is a user/commit pivot with a composite primary key. Creation uses transactional insertOrIgnore and performs derived work only for a newly inserted row; deletion is transactional and conditional on removal. The inbox reuses these repetition and duplicate-request controls.
observed — The shared client protocol suppresses overlapping mutations, applies optimistic state, adopts successful responses, reverses rejected mutations, and releases coordination in finally. Version checks reject stale polling results, while polling teardown unsubscribes controls and aborts polling. Exact mutation-request cancellation during navigation remains unverified because the external transport-hook implementation was unavailable.

Docstring coverage is inconclusive: files from earlier reviews still need to be rechecked within the check's analysis limits. Not blocking.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
All changed files relate to the star action on notification items. NotificationGroupsQuery::withCommitStars and the notification controllers supply star data. CommitStarButton and StarCount accept a StarrableCommit type so the inbox can reuse them with partial commit data. resources/js/pages/notification/index.tsx renders the button for ungrouped reply, quote, and mention notifications. Tests cover star display, exclusions, and API isolation. tests/Feature/Controllers/Api/NotificationControllerTest.php confirms that the notifications API omits stars_count and starred, which matches the PR statement that the API is unchanged. KNOWLEDGE_BASE.md documents the star behavior. No unrelated change is demonstrated. Evidence limit: the NotificationGroupItem part of index.tsx could not be read at the reviewed head, so this verdict relies on the PR summary for that file.

Explanation
Issue #447 requires the commit action line on reply notifications. The line has six actions: Star, Quote, Reply, Save, Copy, and Report. The current PR description states only that replies, mentions, and quotes get a star button. The PR summary lists CommitStarButton as the only action added to resources/js/pages/notification/index.tsx (+10/-0). The star objective is implemented. withCommitStars in app/Queries/NotificationGroupsQuery.php supplies stars_count and starred. NotificationGroupController::show and NotificationController pass data through it. Tests in tests/Feature/Controllers/NotificationControllerTest.php and tests/Unit/NotificationIndex.test.tsx cover star display and the exclusions for star notifications, grouped notifications, and pending commits. The PR still declares Closes #447. The Quote, Reply, Save, Copy, and Report actions are not present in the reviewed changes. Evidence limit: index.tsx at the reviewed head was readable only up to the top-level Index component. The NotificationGroupItem section was truncated, so this verdict relies on the PR summary and description for the action set.
Resolution
Add the Quote, Reply, Save, Copy, and Report actions to reply notifications. Render them in the same action line that commit cards use, and keep the existing Star action in that line. Add automated tests that verify each action on reply notifications. If some actions are intentionally deferred, keep #447 open and remove Closes #447 from the PR description, so the PR does not claim full completion of the issue.

Enrich expanded web notification commits with star state.
When a user expands a grouped notification, NotificationGroupController loads each child commit without withCommitStars. The child still reaches the CommitStarButton branch because expanded items are rendered as ungrouped notifications. Without starred and stars_count, an already-starred commit can display as unstarred, send the star action instead of the unstar action, and start with an invalid local count.
Apply the existing enrichment to the web expansion endpoint. Keep the API endpoint unchanged.
