uucore: safe_traversal is not built on AIX and Hurd #15028

Closed

Description

@abendrothj

safe_traversal (and so the descriptor-based -R walks in chmod, chown, chgrp, du, install and rm) is gated off AIX and Hurd, which fall back to path-based walks. nix has every call it needs on both; the only build failure is the stat time fields, which they expose as st_atim/st_mtim/st_ctim timespecs.

    Apparently, we can build on Redox too:

    RUSTC_BOOTSTRAP=1 cargo clippy -q -Zbuild-std -p uucore --features=safe-traversal --all-targets --target x86_64-unknown-redox

    That passes because safe_traversal is still cfg'd out on Redox, so it isn't compiled. With the Redox exclusion removed, the same command fails: nix has none of the *at calls there (no nix::dir, openat, fstatat, fchownat, unlinkat, mkdirat or AtFlags), and uu_chown additionally hits the missing rustix::fs::symlinkat in uucore's fs feature, as on main. Supporting Redox would mean rewriting DirFd on raw libc, so I've left it out of this one.
