• The issue is not present after disabling uBO in the browser.
• I checked the documentation to understand that the issue I am reporting is not normal behavior.

I tried to reproduce the issue when...

• uBO is the only extension.
• uBO uses default lists and settings.
• using a new, unmodified browser profile.

Description

The issue is with the .crx extension fie itself. It may be signed but whenever I attempt to download Brave Nightly says ‘Package is invalid: 'REQUIRED_PROOF_MISSING'’. Of course it works when I download the ZIP file, extract, and load as an unpacked extension. If the .crx file is available and signed then what required proof is missing? I am sure it makes no difference but the Brave extension manifest V2 flag is enabled explicitly. I am perplexed. If it is infeasible for a local .crx file of any ilk to be downloaded not to mention installed then such limitation shall be made explicit in the section for how to install its respective build.

Steps to Reproduce

Simply try to download the .crx file for any build from the assets section using Brave Nightly builds. The info bar will display the aforementioned message.

Expected behavior

I expected the .crx file to download.

The reason of closure is not clear to me. The issue which is upstream to Chromium was closed years back because the issue could not be reproduced? It surely does not work as intended. I can reproduce reliably. It is an issue to this day withal.

I like that proposal. According to the comments this workaround shall be made available in the forthcoming weeks. I still fail to understand the exact issue downstream from Chromium but the one thing I understand is Google shamefully refuse to fix it.

That ‘save link as’ method worked. My real issue then is I cannot side-load it once downloaded. I thought I could since it is local. Google are so incredibly shamefully tyrannical, suppressive, authoritarian et cetera with this nonsense. They remind me of Apple in this regard.

Were u able to enable the extension ? Because no matter what I do, I cannot enable the extension, which makes the entire endeavour pointless.

I could drag and drop the crx package in brave://extensions/ and it worked fine. Please report your issue to Brave.

I cannot load the extension into Brae. I can download it but not do anything with it ergo pointless.

As a totally blind person who cannot use a mouse to drag and drop this is impossible.

There is nothing uBO can do, the error is from the browser and as per thread on Brave repo, it's specifically a Chromium issue.

But the extension remains disabled, was it the case with you ?

I downloaded the crx file using "Save as...", then I dragged and dropped it in brave://extensions/ page, the browser asked me to confirm, then when I did the extension was enabled. I could then tell the browser to "Keep the extension" which I guess ensure it will be there on next browser launch. All this is on linux, maybe it's different in another OS.
