Ongoing polish: mouse, Unicode, completions, history, performance, and installation #20

Description

@raiseCatError

Goal

Track broad polish only when no focused issue already owns the work. Keep this as a triage/backlog index rather than a second specification for active features.

Candidate areas for future triage

  • Mouse selection and scroll edge cases not already tracked elsewhere.
  • Unicode grapheme/display-width defects not covered by a focused bug.
  • Startup, rendering, or long-history performance measurements with a reproducible case.
  • Installation and upgrade friction that has a concrete user impact.

Do not duplicate focused issues

Create a focused issue when a concrete defect or bounded improvement is identified; do not treat this catch-all as a commitment to implement every candidate area.

Roadmap update

Completions, history and performance now have focused issues: #140/#141/#142 completion, #143/#144 history, #137/#138 suggestions, #155 performance strategy. Keep this issue for polish that none of them owns.

    PR #82 (merged to dev) fixes passive hover by enabling any-motion mouse tracking (?1003) only while NMSh owns the screen. It is off during passthrough and on exit. Shift+mouse now produces no NMSh events, so it stays native text selection. Validate in Ghostty first, then Terminal.app/VS Code: hover over foldable rows without clicking; Shift+drag selects text and never toggles rows; after vim/less and after quitting nmsh, the shell does not print mouse escape codes when you move the pointer.

    Final v0.3.0 physical terminal validation passed in Ghostty, Terminal.app, and VS Code integrated terminal. The release candidate at e0bc7b0 passed the required human interaction and visual checks. Local validation: npm ci, build, typecheck, 239/239 tests, 2/2 slow TAP fixture, diff check, and notMyShell 0.3.0 build identity.

    Focused future roadmap index

    The concrete terminal-first workspace ideas now have #330 and coherent children #331–#341. Sidebar/detail, tmux Studio, Setup Cat profiles, configurable keymap, action controls, worktrees, GitHub workflows, future Managed adapters, Remote Control research and executable Portable Mod security live there. Keep this issue for residual reproducible polish without a focused owner; do not copy those specifications here. Closed notMyUI/Setup Cat/product-boundary foundations remain closed. No product implementation or change to #328/#329.
