📝 Walkthrough

The project configuration now uses PEP 621 metadata, dependency groups, and the uv_build backend. GitHub workflows use uv to install dependencies, run tests and type checkers, and build the package. Dependabot now uses the uv ecosystem. The contribution guide updates its instructions for installing Ruff and running pre-commit.

Pull-request test code can access the checkout credential while the job runs, potentially exposing the permissions granted to its token. Disable credential persistence and limit the token to read-only access before merging.

Remove the unsupported python-path input from setup-uv.

astral-sh/setup-uv@1c37ad07a6a961277cf70c0d37d6f313000f5884 expects python-version to be a version selector, not the filesystem path returned by setup-python. The same configuration exists in python-tests.yml, type-checkers.yml, and weekly-tests.yml. Each workflow can therefore fail during uv sync before running its checks.

setup-python already provides the selected interpreter. Remove this input from all three workflows.

🌐 Web query:

official actions/checkout persist-credentials default local git config documentation

💡 Result:

The **current `actions/checkout` default is `persist-credentials: true`**. The input description says it configures the token or SSH key with local Git config. ([github.com](https://github.com/actions/checkout/blob/main/action.yml?utm_source=openai))

**Version matters:** for v4, the README explicitly says the auth token is persisted in local Git config and removed during post-job cleanup. In v6, credentials moved to a separate file under `$RUNNER_TEMP`—so “local Git config” describes the input’s purpose, but not where credentials are stored in that version. ([github.com](https://github.com/actions/checkout/blob/main/README.md?utm_source=openai))

🌐 Web query:

site:github.com/actions/checkout v7.0.1 persist-credentials runner temporary directory local git config

💡 Result:

For **`actions/checkout@v7.0.1`**, `persist-credentials` defaults to `true`. When enabled, checkout writes token credentials to a uniquely named config file under `$RUNNER_TEMP`, then adds conditional `includeIf.gitdir` entries to the repository’s **local `.git/config`** so Git can find that file. So credentials are outside the repository config, but the local config still contains references to them. ([github.com](https://github.com/actions/checkout/blob/v7.0.1/action.yml))

The v7.0.1 source also removes the temporary credentials config during cleanup. ([github.com](https://github.com/actions/checkout/blob/v7.0.1/src/git-auth-helper.ts))

Disable persisted checkout credentials in the pull-request test job.

This job runs pull-request code after checkout. That code can read the persisted checkout credential through the local Git configuration and its referenced temporary credential file. Set persist-credentials: false.

Declare contents: read to limit the token if it is exposed. The current workflow does not declare token permissions, so its effective scope depends on repository or organization defaults.
