The systems-paper evaluation axis, measured for the node tier: the
sha256/index verification discipline costs ~0.1s against 7-13s session
creation (integrity is free); cache-hit reload ~0.4s; int4 loads 2x
faster but decodes ~2.5x slower than int8. SPEC.md defines the full
matrix; node-bench.mjs runs the production Release path;
modal-bench.py (E2) and browser WASM (E3) follow.

Paper-C axis: first measured table (cold/warm/verify/session/decode/
RSS across the three shipped client tiers). E2/E3 pending.
