Merge-queue macOS runs grew from 31-35 to 34-40 minutes on 2026-10-14 (#990 took 40.0), close to the 45-minute limit. The queue's check response timeout is already 90 (ruleset 19969675, mirrored in .abcd/work/rulesets/main-protection.json), so the job's own limit is the binding one and 60 stays under it. The warning line moves with the limit, from 35 to 50, keeping ruling Z's ten-minute lead. The budget test now pins the macOS ceiling at 60 and the warning test holds the line ten minutes under it. This raises the macOS
checkjob'stimeout-minutesfrom 45 to 60. A warning fires at about 50 minutes, so a run creeping toward the new limit is visible before it is cancelled. The ubuntu job stays at 30.Why this overrides the cancel policy. The 2026-09-28 cancel policy says never to raise a timeout again and to open a speed lane instead. The product thinker ruled on 2026-10-15 to raise the macOS limit anyway, as headroom ("Raise to 60 anyway"). That ruling amends the policy for the macOS leg only.
The speed lane happened first. #1014 brought the macOS queue run down from 40–45 minutes to 30m09s. So this is spare room, not a fix: a run would now have to slow by about 100% before it is cancelled. Before the speed lane, the margin was 0–12%.
The two CI-budget tests now pin 60 for macOS and the warning threshold:
