Integrate the accepted upstream 0.42.24 commit through 79be48d into the v3 performance branch. The six upstream paths and 155 performance paths do not overlap; every accepted upstream and performance blob is preserved in the union. Relative to latest main, this task still changes source, necessary tests and workflows only. Upstream documents, version files and the opt-in example are inherited verbatim.
Validation: independent complete union-tree, ordered-parent and patch reconstruction review; actual union checkout nightly format, diff and locked offline metadata checks passed. Native tests remain pending, and no benchmark is dispatched or performance result claimed. Merge using a merge commit to preserve real main ancestry. Verify the new merge's own GitHub signature, exact tree and both parents; accepted main retains its original historical unknown-key signature status.
