Currently, the Cursor options have no effect on my recordings. I can only see the original recorded cursor and none of the settings have no effect. Cannot even hide the cursor.

This happens both when recording screen or a window.

Expected behavior

Cursor tab options expected to have an effect.

Thanks for the report. The most likely cause is that the take was recorded with the system cursor: ScreenCaptureKit then bakes the cursor into the video and no cursor data is recorded, so the Cursor settings have nothing to act on. The editable cursor is the default and is switched by the cursor button in the recording bar.

On our side the editor should not offer settings that cannot do anything, so we are hiding the Cursor settings when a take has no cursor data. That will also make this case obvious.

To confirm it is that and nothing else:

1. Was the cursor button in the recording bar set to the system cursor when you recorded?
2. Is there a .cursor.json file next to the recording?
3. Are Accessibility and Input Monitoring granted to OpenScreen (System Settings, Privacy & Security)?
4. If you can, tray menu, Save Diagnostics, right after a take, and attach the file. Its [native-sck] starting macOS capture line shows which cursor mode was used.

I can confirm that the number 1 was the issue here; the recording bar cursor toggle was set to incorrect option. Not really related to this, but the recording bar options are quite confusing; especially the ones that do not have a tooltip on hover.

As context, here is what is going on my mind as a user:

• What does each state of the cursor toggle means? What happens when it is ON and what happens when it is OFF?
• And even if it had a tooltip like "Use system cursor", the terminology could still be confusing. What system cursor is, and what is the other option?

So, all in all, this issue is resolved. Continuation for you to decide is if the recording bar options and their effects could be made a bit clearer (with tooltips or similar). From UX point of view, I would rather disable than hide the cursor option when they are not available for the current cursor setting.
