A panel that says not yet instead of down
DRAFT — Merged PR; unpublished blog draft
PR: #1319

The live MY RUNNERS panel told every signed-in person that the Queen did not answer, because its server half is not deployed and the Queen answers the cabinet path 404. A 404 now reads as runners coming soon, with no create form, and the panel switches on by itself once the server offers the cabinet.
Merged PR. Checks reported by the author: 4 passed, 1 not run; this generator did not rerun them.
The problem
The cabinet shipped to app.t27.ai while the server routes it calls were still waiting to be deployed, so every visitor saw an outage message.
How it works
A server that has the cabinet never answers its path with 404, so the panel now reads a 404 as not here yet and says runners are coming.
Once the server half is deployed, the panel switches on by itself with no further site change.
What changed
- apps/website/src/lib/queenRunners.ts: a new CabinetView state, pending. A 404 on list or create returns it. 401 still means sign in, and any other failure still means unavailable.
- apps/website/src/components/QueenRunners.tsx: renders the pending state. In that state the panel shows the note instead of the outage alert, has no create form, and drops the next-stage line.
- apps/website/qa/queen-runners-contract.mjs: case 3b checks that a 404 on list and on create yields pending, and that the panel renders it. Removing the 404 line from callRunners makes the contract fail.
- apps/website/src/lib/queenRunnersCopy.ts: after merging main (feat(website): home gets a Get started door; frames boot on a click; a 404 wire is asked once #1310 moved the cabinet's words here so the homepage can quote them), the pending sentence in EN and RU lives with the rest of the copy.
- Merged main again after fix(brain-ci): restore the brain test steps that exist, drop the ones that test nothing #1333 fixed brain-ci (it now runs only the brain regions whose test steps exist in build.zig), so the Brain Unit Tests re-run on the fixed workflow. The diff against main is still these four website files.
How we checked
| Check | Status | Result | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| `cd apps/website && npm run check:queen-runners` | passed | queen-runners contract: ok, including the new 404 case; it fails as expected with the 404 handling removed. | Local run on head c397845 in the authoring session |
| `cd apps/website && npm run typecheck:ratchet && npm run check:queen-contrast && npm run check:queen-fallback-parity && npm run check:aria` | passed | Ratchet: 179 errors across 26 files, equal to the baseline, and no file gained errors. Contrast: 24 pairs, worst 5.39:1. Fallback parity: PASS 215/215. ARIA: every reference resolves. | Local run on head c397845 in the authoring session |
| `cd apps/website && npx vite build && npx eslint src/lib/queenRunners.ts src/components/QueenRunners.tsx qa/queen-runners-contract.mjs` | passed | Build succeeded. ESLint clean on all three files. | Local run on head c397845 in the authoring session |
| `curl the production Queen at /queen/me/runners with Origin https://app\.t27\.ai, GET and OPTIONS` | passed | GET returns 404 with Access-Control-Allow-Origin https://app\.t27\.ai, and the preflight returns 204 with the same origin, so the browser sees the 404. | Measured against trios-agent-server-production on 2026-10-04 in the authoring session |
| `Manual check of the panel in a browser on https://app\.t27\.ai/queen/\` | not run | The panel reads the session only on the app.t27.ai origin, which this session cannot sign in to. | Not run: requires a signed-in app.t27.ai session |
What this does not show
- This only changes what the panel says before the server half is deployed. Runners still need feat(queen): runner cabinet - lend a lane without lending a key BrowserOS#518 merged and deployed to work.
- feat(queen): the runners cabinet says how to take tasks #1230 edits the same files and will need main merged in after this lands.
