📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The pull request adds a generator for a checks catalogue and adds rules for mise configuration and Rust ordering. It updates local GitHub Action paths, repository guidance, and policy text. Several Rust types also gain derives, while other derive and lint lists are reordered.

Changes

Checks catalogue

Layer / File(s) Summary
Catalogue generation and validation
utilities/int-gen/*, utilities/int-gen/tests/checks.rs, utilities/int-gen/HELP.md
The int-gen CLI adds a checks command to render CHECKS.md or report drift. The renderer collects mise tasks, configuration paths, and rules. Tests cover tool detection, rule sources, Rego summaries, and Markdown wrapping.
Task integration and generated catalogue
.mise/config.toml, CHECKS.md
Mise adds gen:checks and checks-md-check; the Rust check aggregate includes the stale check. CHECKS.md lists checks, tools, shell-script checks, and rules.
Catalogue exclusions
config/semgrep/*
Semgrep exclusions allow the generated catalogue and its generator to mention check tools and task names.

GitHub local Action paths

Layer / File(s) Summary
Workflow and action references
.github/actions/*, .github/workflows/*
Local action references change to the $/.github/actions/ form.
Path validation
.mise/config.toml, config/conftest/policy/gha/*, config/conftest/policy/gha_uses/*, config/conftest/policy/policy_pairing/policy_pairing.rego
The conftest policies recognize the updated prefix and check workflow trigger coverage. The actionlint task ignores the matching missing-ref diagnostic. The policy-pairing configuration now requires a test for the GitHub Actions policy.

Mise task configuration

Layer / File(s) Summary
Task commands, tool settings, and templates
.mise/config*.toml
Selected task commands use coreutils for POSIX utilities. Tool settings change for editorconfig-checker, dekit, conda:gnupg, and the Clang resource path. Several Tera templates and multiline task strings change whitespace handling.
Mise configuration rules
config/semgrep/mise-config.yaml
New rules check multiline string delimiters, basic versus literal multiline strings, and selected utilities used without the coreutils prefix.

Rust ordering rules and lint updates

Layer / File(s) Summary
Ordering rules
config/ast-grep/rules/*, config/semgrep/sorted-lists.yaml, config/generated-trees.toml
New rules check derive ordering, inherent implementation ordering, and sorted derive, lint, and feature lists. The generated-tree configuration registers these rules.
Rust source updates
libs/*, services/*, utilities/cli/*, utilities/int-gen/src/*, utilities/onnx/src/main.rs, utilities/repo-check/src/error.rs
Many derive and lint attributes are reordered. CaptureNotification, HubModule, OutboundFrame, and SessionMessage gain derives. The AgentRegistry default implementation moves without a body change.
Clone baseline
config/jscpd-baseline.json
The baseline replaces several clone fingerprints.

Repository guidance and policy maintenance

Layer / File(s) Summary
Guidance and references
AGENTS.md, .codacy.yaml, Dockerfile.nanoserver, README.md, config/*, libs/test-helpers/src/lib.rs, services/ws-web-runner/src/error.rs
AGENTS.md replaces CLAUDE.md, and repository guidance is revised. Related references change. The README adds a research link and a link to CHECKS.md.
Policy messages and comments
config/conftest/policy/*
Selected Rego messages use string interpolation instead of formatting helpers. Comments document existing checks. The advisory expiry timestamp construction also changes to interpolation.

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 7f7be

Restore the GitHub Actions policy exemption or add its paired test before merging: repository validation currently cannot pass. Also exclude local overrides from catalogue inputs and restrict the coreutils rule to executable task text to prevent machine-dependent drift and false check failures.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 7f7be

The inspected changes do not expand service access or sandbox authority. The new catalogue remains derived documentation, not an independent security control. CI action-resolution compatibility and execution results remain unverified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The new catalogue operation affects repository files and developer or CI processes. Its fixed write destination and non-executing task parser do not establish new tenant, service, or data-store access.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The action-reference migration has corresponding policy updates for declared inputs and trigger-path coverage. Actionlint receives a message-specific suppression for the new reference format; the separate input policy checks both workflow and composite-action callers.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — Render failures occur before generation writes, and comparison failures do not modify the catalogue. The existing direct-write helper lacks atomic replacement and locking, so interrupted or concurrent generation can leave partial or competing documentation. This does not establish a fail-open security-control transition.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Restrict the coreutils rule to task commands.

The optional prefix accepts ( anywhere on a line. It does not require a run assignment. For example, description = "Inspect files (ls -la)" matches this rule even though it executes no command. Semgrep evaluates pattern-regex as a multiline PCRE2 match, so it does not distinguish that description from command text. (semgrep.dev)

This false positive makes semgrep-check fail because that task uses --error. Restrict matching to run assignments and multiline task bodies. Exclude descriptions and other non-command values.
