Closes #487

  • Private lists of developers, each with its own log
  • Pin up to 2 lists as tabs next to Following, Latest and Trending; on phones the tabs scroll instead of cutting names
  • Add someone to a list from their profile; nobody is notified
  • Someone else's list is a 404; list names are encrypted
  • Deleting a list asks first; lists are in the data export and go with the account

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Create up to 10 private developer lists per account, with up to 250 members each, and manage membership from developer profiles.
    • View list members and a feed of their latest top-level commits, filtered by visibility, mute, and block settings.
    • Pin up to two lists alongside your logs, and manage lists from the navigation.
    • Export your lists with member names, creation dates, and pin details.
    • Remove lists without changing the members’ existing follows.

Walkthrough

The pull request adds private developer lists with membership management, pinned list tabs, and member commit feeds. It adds authenticated list routes and integrates list data into profiles, log pages, and account exports.

Changes: Private developer lists

Layer / File(s) Summary
List data and ownership
database/migrations/*, app/Models/UserList.php, app/Models/User.php, database/factories/UserListFactory.php, tests/Unit/Models/UserListTest.php, tests/Unit/Actions/DeleteUserTest.php
Adds list and membership tables, the UserList model and user relationships, and a factory. The model defines list limits and encrypted names. Tests cover model behavior and list cleanup when users are deleted.
List management and access
app/Actions/*UserList*.php, app/Http/Requests/*UserList*.php, app/Http/Controllers/UserList*.php, routes/web.php, app/Providers/AppServiceProvider.php, tests/Feature/Controllers/UserList*Test.php, tests/Feature/RateLimitTest.php
Adds authenticated list, membership, and pin endpoints with ownership checks, validation, capacity limits, and rate limiting. Feature tests cover list management, membership restrictions, pinning, and access control.
List feeds and account integrations
app/Queries/UserListCommitsQuery.php, app/Http/Controllers/{UserListController,LogController,UserController}.php, app/Actions/CreateExport.php, tests/Feature/Controllers/{UserListControllerTest,LogControllerTest,UserControllerTest,ExportControllerTest}.php
Adds filtered, paginated list commits and member data. Adds pinned-list props to logs, optional list membership data to profiles, and owned lists to account exports. Tests cover these response data changes and feed filtering.
List interfaces and navigation
resources/js/components/*list*.tsx, resources/js/components/{app-nav,log-tabs,page-tabs,user-menu-content}.tsx, resources/js/lib/user-lists.ts, resources/js/pages/user-list/*, resources/js/pages/{log/show,user/show}.tsx, resources/js/types/*, KNOWLEDGE_BASE.md, PRODUCT.md
Adds list management and detail pages, profile membership controls, and pinned-list log tabs. Adds navigation, scrollable tabs, list types, error-toast handling, and documentation. Lists are excluded from the mobile navigation bar.

Merge Risk: Moderate · up to d3270

People with lists may be unable to complete an account export. Correct the member-handle query before merging.

Security architecture risk: Low · up to d3270

The inspected paths preserve list ownership, feed visibility, private export delivery, and account-deletion cleanup. Concurrent requests can exceed the configured list, membership, and pin limits, but no cross-account access or privilege expansion was established. Deployment and concurrent execution remain unverified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The new sensitive assets are an account's list names and membership graph. In the inspected routes, attacker-controlled list IDs and member usernames reach owner-checked operations; adding someone to a list does not itself grant access to otherwise invisible commits.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — List reads and destructive or pin operations compare list ownership with the authenticated principal and deny foreign-owned lists as not found. Member creation additionally rejects self-membership and either direction of a block, despite member routes using unscoped bindings.
  • observed — The export adds private list data to an existing authenticated current-user operation. Its controller is unchanged from the PR base and streams an attachment with private, no-store caching directives; it does not introduce a stored export delivery path.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Cleanup is enforced by foreign keys: deleting an owner removes owned lists, deleting a list removes its memberships, and deleting a member removes their membership rows. Account deletion performs the user deletion inside a database transaction. The added test asserts cleanup while preserving another owner's list and remaining member.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — If list and membership limits are intended to provide strict resource containment, serialize each count-and-write transition on a stable owner or list lock. Request throttling alone should not be treated as exact quota enforcement.

Read member handles from profiles.

users does not contain a handle column. An export with a list can fail on orderBy('handle') and users.handle. Join profiles with the existing github_id key, then order and select profiles.handle.
