Keep keyboard focus visible below the mobile stage - #30
On mobile portrait layouts, the sticky 3D stage can cover a code block reached by keyboard focus. Root scroll padding also needs to avoid double-offsetting chapter jumps and to reset when the stage fails or WebGL is unavailable.
The change
Reserve space for focused content with scroll-padding-top in the stacked portrait layout and remove the redundant chapter and scene scroll margins.
Reset root scroll padding when the stage is failed or has .no-webgl.
Keep code blocks keyboard-focusable, labeled, and visibly outlined; document the required attributes in the skill guidance.
Full npm test was not completed: Playwright Chromium is not installed, and two symlink tests fail with EPERM on this Windows environment. No claim is made that the full suite passed.

Summary
Summary by CodeRabbit
Accessibility
Code examples can receive keyboard focus, display a visible focus outline, and expose descriptive labels to assistive technologies.
Navigation
In portrait layouts, scrolling keeps focused content clear of the pinned stage. The extra offset is cleared if the stage fails or WebGL is unavailable, or when the auto-play or reset-view control has focus.
Documentation
Authoring guidance now calls for concrete chapter examples and labeled, keyboard-focusable code blocks.
The HTML assets add visible focus outlines to code blocks and replace portrait-layout chapter and scene scroll margins with document-level scroll padding. The example pages mark code blocks as labeled, keyboard-focusable regions. The skill guidance and tests specify and check these changes, including focus behavior and page errors.
codekongdev/plz issue 14 — Scroll padding and code-block focus styling address the reported focus obstruction. Keyboard rotation and reset access remain separate requirements.
codekongdev/plz issue 22 — The added browser checks cover focus layout and page errors in the examples. Broader CI smoke coverage remains outside this change.
codekongdev/plz issue 17 — Root scroll padding and removed chapter margins affect scrolling below the sticky stage. Chapter navigation remains a separate requirement.

observed — scripts (service) was modified; 2 changed files map to changed impact.
Before / after behavior
observed — Modified behavior in skills/plz-3d-explain/SKILL.md: The chapter-example instruction now requires code regions to have tabindex="0", role="region", and a distinct short aria-label; the previous instruction only specified pre.code. The quotation and result-sentence requirements are unchanged.
observed — Modified behavior in scripts/focus-visibility.test.mjs: Adds imports, paths for the three HTML assets, the stacked-layout media query, and a helper that strips CSS comments before checks.
observed — Modified behavior in scripts/focus-visibility.test.mjs: Adds blockBody, which returns the braced body of the first occurrence of a requested prelude, or null if the prelude or closing brace is missing.
observed — Modified behavior in scripts/focus-visibility.test.mjs: Adds per-page CSS assertions for stacked-layout root scroll padding, zero padding when stage controls are focused, absence of duplicate chapter scroll margins, zero padding for failed stages, and a visible 3px code-block focus outline.

Require a visible value for the code-block focus outline.
The check at lines 37-41 accepts any outline: declaration in the pre.code:focus-visible rule. A value of none, hidden, or 0 removes the focus indicator and still passes. This check is the only test for the new code-block outline, so a regression of this kind would not be detected.
Reject the invisible values in the outline: value:
The corrected pattern still accepts a visible declaration such as outline: 3px solid red. It rejects none, hidden, and zero-width values. It does not check the outline color.

Thanks for this. The focus fix works: on a 390×844 portrait viewport (stage height 371px), Shift+Tab onto a code block that sat under the stage now lands it at 505–711px, where before it stayed at 299–544px with its top 72px hidden. A few things need to change before merge.
1. Chapter jumps are now offset twice. Inside the stacked media query, .chapter and [data-scene] already set scroll-margin-top: var(--stage-h). With html { scroll-padding-top: var(--stage-h) } added, the browser applies both, so scrollIntoView({ block: 'start' }) (the path window.__explainer.run() uses) stops the chapter top at 743px instead of 372px, near the bottom of an 844px screen. Since the root padding now reserves the stage for every scroll, please remove scroll-margin-top: var(--stage-h) from .chapter and [data-scene] in that media query. With that change I measured the chapter at 372px and the focus result unchanged.
2. Reset the padding when the model fails to load. main has since added a failed-state block (#24) that unpins the stage and sets [data-scene] { scroll-margin-top: 0 }. With this PR, scroll-padding-top stays at the stage height in that state, so scrolls leave a 371px gap with nothing above it. Please merge main and reset it there:
After change 1, the existing [data-scene] { scroll-margin-top: 0 } reset is no longer needed.
3. Pages the skill generates won't get the new attributes.tabindex="0" role="region" aria-label is added only to the two examples. SKILL.md still says "Put code in pre.code", and template.html has no code blocks, so new pages keep the bare markup. Please add the attributes to the pre.code guidance in SKILL.md, with a short, distinct aria-label for each block.
4. (minor) As CodeRabbit noted, the test also accepts outline: none. Matching a non-zero outline value would close that gap.
With main merged in, check-readme-translations, check-templates, and focus-visibility.test.mjs all pass locally.
Removed the stacked chapter and scene scroll margins, added a failed-stage scroll-padding reset, and documented keyboard-focusable code regions with distinct accessible names in the skill. The regression test now rejects zero or none outlines and checks the padding reset and absence of duplicate margins; the focus, template, and translation checks passed.

Require an exact zero for the failed-state reset.
This pattern matches scroll-padding-top: 0.5rem because it does not require a token boundary after 0. A nonzero reset can therefore pass the test. Require a CSS zero value followed by the declaration boundary.

Reject zero-width and transparent outlines.
The negative lookahead rejects only literal 0 and none. It accepts outline: 0px solid ... and outline: transparent, so a non-visible focus indicator can pass the test. Match the intended visible outline, or reject all zero-width and transparent values.

Target the WebGL failure state in the failed-stage scroll reset.
The reset selector html:has(.stage[data-state="failed"]) never matches. When WebGL initialization fails, the code adds no-webgl to the stage and never sets data-state. After a WebGL failure, portrait pages keep scroll-padding-top: var(--stage-h) even though the stage shows the fallback notice.
Apply the same change in example-agent-sandbox.html (line 176) and template.html (line 176). The regression test checks the selector text, so update its assertion in scripts/focus-visibility.test.mjs (line 38) in the same change. The test does not load the page, so it does not detect this mismatch.

Test the stage-control focus transition in a browser.
The CSS assertion cannot detect a reading-position shift. In a portrait browser test, scroll until the stage is sticky and compare scrollY before and after focusing each control. Then focus a code block and check that it is visible below the stage.
