feat: support passkey identifier verification on iOS, Android and web - #1702
Passkey signup now supports identifier verification on iOS, Android and web. When a database connection requires the user's email or phone number to be verified, Auth0 sends a one-time code to each identifier. The app collects the codes before it creates the passkey, then sends them with the credential. Signups that need no verification behave exactly as before.
passkeySignupChallenge accepts deliveryMethod ('text' or 'voice') for phone codes, and returns verificationRequired ('email' and/or 'phone') when codes are needed.
getTokenByPasskey accepts verification, a map of identifier to code.
A wrong code rejects with a PasskeyError of type PASSKEY_VERIFICATION_RETRYABLE. error.getVerificationRetryPayload() returns the session and the identifiers to ask again, so the app retries with the same credential and the user never creates a second passkey.
New public types: PasskeyVerificationMethod and PasskeyVerificationRetryPayload. Everything is additive, with no breaking changes.
Unit tests cover the native and web adapters, the bridge and the new PasskeyError behavior (828 tests pass). The example app builds on iOS against Auth0.swift 3.2.0, including with static and dynamic use_frameworks!, and the Android module compiles against Auth0.Android 4.2.0. To try it by hand, use the Passkeys screen in the example app (or the web example) with a tenant that has passkey_identifier_verification enabled and a database connection that requires email or phone verification.
Not tested: a real run on a device or in a browser against a tenant. The real server responses, and how the retry details reach JavaScript on each platform, are unconfirmed. The Android bridge has no unit tests.

📝 Summary
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Passkey signup can require one-time verification codes sent to an email address or phone number. Phone codes can be delivered by text or voice.
Submit verification codes with the passkey credential. If verification fails and can be retried, update the requested codes and retry with the same credential. Retry details are available to help identify which codes need updating.
Documentation
Updated passkey guides and examples with identifier verification steps, retry guidance, and phone-code delivery options, including platform-specific behavior.
Passkey signup now supports email and phone verification codes across web and native clients. The changes add phone-code delivery options, retryable verification errors with retry data, updated signup examples, and newer native SDK version references.
Native and web implementations forward delivery methods and verification codes, return recognized verification requirements, and map retryable exchange errors. Tests cover argument forwarding, value filtering, and retry payloads.
Example signup flows example/src/App.web.tsx, example/src/features/PasskeysClass.tsx, example/src/features/PasskeysHooks.tsx
The examples collect required codes, reuse the same credential for retryable failures, and allow phone delivery selection. The native examples also support canceling a pending signup.
Documentation and SDK version updates A0Auth0.podspec, MIGRATION_GUIDE.md, README.md, EXAMPLES.md, EXAMPLES-WEB.md
The documentation describes verification and retry behavior. The Auth0 iOS dependency reference changes to 3.2.0, and the Android migration guide changes its SDK reference to 4.2.0.

Pass the empty code in this test, and rename the title to match what it checks.
The test title says the empty code is "rejected by spa-js before sending anything." The test does not check that. The exchange() helper always sends email: '000000', and the mock rejects with missing_verification_code whatever the input is. Nothing in this test confirms that an empty code reaches spa-js, so a regression that drops '' in the adapter would still pass. The test only covers error mapping. Pass '' through the adapter and assert the spa-js call, or rename the test to describe only the error mapping.

When a database connection requires the user's email or phone number to be verified, passkey
signup now carries the one-time codes end to end on iOS, Android and web.
- passkeySignupChallenge accepts deliveryMethod ('text' | 'voice') for phone codes and returns
verificationRequired, the identifiers to verify.
- getTokenByPasskey accepts a verification map (identifier -> code).
- A wrong code while the session is still alive rejects with a PasskeyError of type
PASSKEY_VERIFICATION_RETRYABLE. error.getVerificationRetryPayload() returns authSession (the
session to retry with) and verificationRequired (the identifiers to ask for again), so the app
retries with the same credential and the user never creates a second passkey. A missing or
empty code is not retryable.
- The retry details reach JavaScript the same way on every platform: the native bridges reject
with them in userInfo, and the web adapter reads them from the auth0-spa-js error. One helper
decides which identifiers and codes are known, so the platforms cannot drift apart.
- PasskeyVerificationMethod and PasskeyVerificationRetryPayload are new public types (additive).
- Requires Auth0.swift 3.2.0 (the podspec pin moves from 3.0.1) and Auth0.Android 4.2.x and
auth0-spa-js 2.29.0, which master already pins.

…ion codes in getTokenByPasskey
Add an optional verificationRequired list to GetTokenByPasskeyParameters and
widen verification to Record<string, string>. Both are optional on every
platform: iOS and Android forward verificationRequired to Auth0.swift and
Auth0.Android, which validate the codes locally; web accepts and ignores it.
A retry after a wrong code now sends only the identifiers the error flagged.
Blank codes (including the characters Swift and Kotlin treat as blank) are
rejected in JS as PASSKEY_INVALID_PARAMETER on every platform. The example
apps show the flagged identifiers and the retry count.

ReactCodegen and ReactAppDependencyProvider were still locked at 0.87.0
while the example is on React Native 0.88.0, so every pod install rewrote
the lock file.

Skip non-string verification values before reading them.
verificationCodes calls getString on each known identifier. A non-string value throws UnexpectedNativeTypeException before the promise settles. The SDK path filters non-string values first, so only a direct native call reaches this failure. Check the value type before the read, as the JS filter does.
- val code = if (it.hasKey(method.value)) it.getString(method.value) else null+ val code = if (it.hasKey(method.value) && it.getType(method.value) == ReadableType.String) it.getString(method.value) else null

⚠️Unverified finding
We couldn't verify this from the code. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
The Hooks example can invoke createPasskey twice for one pending signup because credentialJson is recorded only after the asynchronous creation completes.
Duplicate credentials or competing completion requests may result.
This can occur when: The user presses Verify twice before the first passkey ceremony finishes.
