Your Books. Your AI. Your Flow.
Inleaf Reader turns VS Code into a calm, local-first space for reading papers and books. Read a PDF, annotate a passage, translate text, save vocabulary, and work beside the AI assistant you already trust without repeatedly leaving the document.

- Stay in the reading flow. Frequent actions live next to the selected text.
- Use your own AI. Keep Codex, Claude Code, or another assistant beside the document instead of paying for a reader-specific AI service.
- Own your notes. Annotations, vocabulary, and progress are ordinary local files stored beside the PDF.
- Choose local or remote translation. Use the bundled dictionary, Argos, LibreTranslate, or your own DeepSeek key.
- Keep data AI-ready. Structured JSON and Markdown make it easy for other tools to inspect and reuse your reading history.
- Install Inleaf Reader and open your first PDF.
- Create and manage annotations.
- Configure translation and use the wordbook.
- Learn where your data lives and how AI tools can use it.
Inleaf Reader is a preview release focused on PDFs with a real text layer. Scanned PDFs require OCR before text selection and annotation can work.
