guard-plan-execution is a Codex Skill for keeping multi-step implementation work aligned with its plan. It adds adaptive completion audits, explicit plan-revision records, omission recovery, and small Git commits linked to stable plan-step IDs.
Use it for tasks that already have a plan or are expected to require at least three implementation steps, especially when work spans phases or sessions and the execution path may evolve.
It does not replace specialized planning, documentation, testing, debugging, or release Skills. If another Skill owns the plan, this Skill audits and corrects execution against that plan. If no persistent plan exists, it creates a lightweight execution ledger.
Install globally for Codex with one command:
npx skills add TaylorSwitiger/guard-plan-execution --skill guard-plan-execution -g -a codex -yThis method requires Node.js and npm. Restart Codex after installation so it discovers the Skill.
Ask Codex to install the Skill from its GitHub path:
Use $skill-installer to install:
https://github.com/TaylorSwitiger/guard-plan-execution/tree/main/skills/guard-plan-execution
Restart Codex after installation.
Clone the repository, then copy the installable package into your Codex Skills directory.
PowerShell:
Copy-Item -Recurse .\skills\guard-plan-execution "$env:USERPROFILE\.codex\skills\guard-plan-execution"macOS or Linux:
mkdir -p ~/.codex/skills
cp -R ./skills/guard-plan-execution ~/.codex/skills/guard-plan-executionRestart Codex after copying the files.
Invoke it explicitly:
Use $guard-plan-execution to carry out this implementation plan without skipping steps.
It may also trigger automatically for planned multi-step implementation work.
- Reuse existing plans instead of creating competing documents.
- Create a durable execution ledger when no plan document exists.
- Use item, milestone, or global audits according to task risk.
- Reopen incomplete steps and revalidate affected downstream work.
- Record plan changes with reasons and impact.
- Keep commits coherent, verifiable, revertible, and linked to plan-step IDs.
- Preserve unrelated user changes and avoid unsafe Git history operations.
