Hi, I'm Boris Svistunov 👋

I am a software engineer with more than seven years of experience in industrial automation, electrical engineering, control systems, and industrial instrumentation.

I develop Python applications for smart meter configuration, equipment diagnostics, monitoring systems, and Telegram-based interfaces. I enjoy studying software engineering in depth and understanding how every part of a system works.

Professional Background

I currently work as a Software Engineer at EMIS, where I focus on the software side and technical support of smart electricity meters.

My industrial experience includes:

  • Five years in industrial automation at NPO Elektromashina
  • Design of custom control cabinets for industrial enterprises at Techno-Center
  • Work with flowmeters, pressure sensors, level measurement equipment, and smart electricity meters at EMIS
  • Development of control and monitoring solutions using OWEN equipment
  • Contribution to EMIS-SYSTEM 500, a commercial system designed to operate with level measurement equipment
  • Software development and technical support for smart electricity meters

Featured Projects

Desktop application for configuring and diagnosing smart electricity meters.

  • Automatic detection of Modbus address, baud rate, and parity
  • Real-time electrical measurement monitoring
  • Smart meter configuration over RS-485
  • English, Russian, and Simplified Chinese interfaces
  • Ready-to-use Windows release
  • Tested with real EMIS-ELECTRA 977 DC meters

Technology: Python, Tkinter, Modbus RTU, RS-485

Monitoring system that receives PUSH events from smart meters and delivers notifications through Telegram.

  • Asynchronous TCP server for incoming meter events
  • Event parsing and SQLite storage
  • Individual meter and access-group connections
  • Notification archive and multilingual interface
  • Administrative group management utility
  • SOCKS5 proxy support

Technology: Python, asyncio, aiohttp, SQLite, Telegram Bot API

Telegram bot that turns household chores into a shared game.

  • Shared households and invitation codes
  • Standard and custom tasks
  • Experience points and user levels
  • User profiles and task history
  • Russian and English interfaces
  • Administrative panel
  • Modular application structure

Technology: Python, aiogram 3, SQLite, FSM, python-dotenv

Education

South Ural State University

  • Master's degree in Automated Electric Drive, 2021
  • Higher education in Automated Electric Drive, 2018
  • Additional qualification: English Translator in Technical Communication, 2018
  • English proficiency assessed at CEFR C2 through university testing

My master's project was developed as part of a four-person Industrial Internet of Things project. The system used equipment tags and augmented-reality glasses to display live electric motor parameters.

My part of the project was a mathematical model of an induction motor designed for integration into cloud computing workflows. The model was developed in MATLAB.

Technical Skills

  • Programming: Python
  • Telegram: aiogram, Telegram Bot API
  • Databases: SQLite, aiosqlite
  • Networking: asyncio, aiohttp, TCP/IP, SOCKS5
  • Industrial communication: Modbus RTU, RS-485
  • Industrial systems: electric drives, smart meters, instrumentation, control cabinets
  • Desktop interfaces: Tkinter, sv_ttk
  • Engineering tools: MATLAB
  • Development tools: Git, GitHub, VS Code
  • Practices: modular architecture, localization, environment configuration, documentation, and release management

Professional Interests

I am interested in remote Software Engineer and Automation Software Engineer positions. I am also open to adjacent engineering fields where software is used to solve practical technical problems.

I am currently improving my knowledge of:

  • Automated testing
  • Application architecture
  • Git workflows
  • Error handling and logging
  • Deployment and continuous integration

Languages

  • Russian: Native
  • English: CEFR C2 according to university assessment; qualified in technical translation
