What

  • Copy MCP Prompt in the Open in menu on every component and block preview. It copies a prompt that asks the shadcn MCP for the item and its -demo example, e.g.:

Use the shadcn MCP to add @tween-ui/tab-wipe to my project. Check @tween-ui/tab-wipe-demo for usage and pass real props instead of guessing them.

  • A one-line hint under every install command: "Using an AI editor? Set up MCP once, then just ask for it in plain words." The link goes to /installation/mcp.

Why

MCP setup happens once per project, so repeating the mcp init command on 41 pages would only add noise. What helps on each page is a prompt that points the assistant at the MCP tools and the generated examples, plus a way to find the setup page from wherever people land.

Notes for review

  • Both changes live in shared components (open-in.tsx, install-tabs.tsx), so no MDX pages change.
  • Added tests/mcp-hints.test.tsx: it checks the hint links to the MCP page and the menu copies the exact prompt.
  • Verified with typecheck, the full test suite (751 passing) and next build

The Open in menu gains Copy MCP Prompt, which asks the shadcn MCP for
the item and its -demo example. Every install command now links to the
MCP setup page, so AI editor users can find it from any component.
