Pinning SBM to the toolbar allows faster and easier access to the extension.
Once SBM is installed in your Chromium-based browser, you can pin it to the toolbar in one of the following ways:
- Click the Extensions button, usually located to the right of the address bar.
- Find
Simple Bookmarks Managerin the list. - Click the pin icon next to
Simple Bookmarks Manager.
This will pin SBM to the toolbar. If SBM is already pinned, clicking the pin icon will unpin it.
- Click the Extensions button, usually located to the right of the address bar.
- Click
Manage Extensions.
Alternatively:
- Click the Chromium menu button.
- Select
Extensions. - Click
Manage Extensions.
Once the Extensions page is open:
- Find
Simple Bookmarks Managerin the list. - Click
Details. - Scroll down to
Pin to toolbar. - Toggle the option on.
SBM can run in the normal tab-based manager view or in Chromium's Side Panel when Sidebar Mode is enabled.
To switch SBM to Sidebar Mode:
- Open SBM.
- Open the hamburger menu.
- Open
Options. - Go to
User Interface. - Enable
Sidebar Mode. - Pin SBM to the toolbar if it is not already pinned.
- Close and relaunch SBM.
After Sidebar Mode is enabled, launch SBM from the extension action, such as the pinned toolbar button or an assigned extension keyboard shortcut. Chromium should open SBM in the browser's Side Panel instead of the normal tab view.
If a Chromium-based browser does not support the Side Panel API, SBM falls back to normal tab behavior.

For background on how this extension was developed, including the GenAI-assisted development process, see PROJECT_HISTORY.md.
As part of the development process, ChatGPT was asked to perform a source code audit to check whether any code appeared to originate from other repositories. This was done as an additional precaution rather than assuming that all code was original.
The result, last updated for the v0.7.20 release made for an interesting read and has been preserved in SOURCE_AUDIT.md.
See CHANGELOG.md for version history.
