sheet-fabula 1.1.0: a bestiary and the commands to run a conflict - #37
Encounters on the JRPG sheet can now run a whole conflict.
Bestiary: 17 original foes from level 5 to 55, kept in a +config fabula/foes table, so staff can add their own. A foe's HP, MP, Initiative, defences and attack bonuses come from its level, rank (soldier, elite, or champion 1 to 6) and role. Villains start with 5, 10 or 15 Ultima Points. +foe lists the bestiary and +foe <foe> shows one foe.
Running a conflict:
The GM brings foes in with +encounter/foe [<count>] <foe>; several copies of one foe are lettered A, B, C.
+encounter/initiative rolls against the foes' best Initiative to decide who acts first. +encounter/begin then starts the conflict. The two sides alternate turns one creature at a time; elites take two turns a round and champions as many as their number.
Players use +attack (Defense, or Magic Defense with /magic). It counts as their last check, so +check/invoke and +check/bond work on it. +attack/damage then deals the high roll plus a bonus in one of nine damage types.
Affinities (vulnerable, resistant, immune, absorbs) apply to all damage. Guarding makes a character resistant to every type.
+encounter/surrender at 0 HP gives Fabula Points (the amount is +config fabula/surrender).
+encounter/entrance gives each character still in a Fabula Point. +encounter/end reports the Ultima Points spent.
GM tools:
+foe/attack rolls a named or numbered attack and applies its damage.
+encounter/reward gives XP or zenit through the ledgers.
In the GM's own encounter, +foe <name> shows that foe as it stands.
+sheet/affinity: records a character's affinities as entries in the build ledger.
Help: four topics (encounter conflict, attack, foes, villains), with output taken from a running server. The README is updated.
fabula-wiki 1.1.0: a new Conflicts page, written in our own words.
Testing
Play-tested on a local server at levels 5, 20 and 45, against the formulas: Bramble Imp HP 50 / MP 45 / Init 8, Thorn Witch 140 / 140 / 11, Iron Colossus 600 / 170 / 12, with accuracy +4 and damage +10 at level 45.
The conflict play-test passes 96 of 96. It covers staff adding a foe, initiative, turns, damage with each affinity, guard, statuses and immunity, surrender, entrance, Ultima Points, rewards and ledger affinities.
The earlier sheet play-test still passes 243 of 243.
A bestiary of 17 original foes from level 5 to 55, kept as a +config table
so staff add their own; foe HP, MP, Initiative, defences and attack bonuses
are worked out from level, rank and role. In an encounter the GM brings foes
in as lettered copies, and the conflict runs in alternating turns: elites
take two a round, champions their number. +encounter/initiative picks the
side that acts first. +attack is a check against Defense or Magic Defense
that the invokes work on, and +attack/damage applies damage types and
affinities; guard, surrender for Fabula Points, villain entrances and Ultima
Points (escape, recover, invoke), +foe/attack, +foe/status with immunities,
and +encounter/reward for experience and zenit. +sheet/affinity records a
character's affinities on the build ledger.
fabula-wiki 1.1.0 adds a Conflicts page.
