Idea: re-run only the failing journey step or spec in a fix loop #492
Split out of #476 (2026-10-20). This applies to any project, whatever mxcli build it uses.
When an acceptance or journey run fails on one step, the fix loop re-runs the whole Playwright script or the whole journey file. On a long journey, most of each fix round is spent replaying steps that already passed.
Idea: a way to re-run only from the failing step or spec. Two possible forms:
journey-runner.js --from <step>, with a declared state precondition so the earlier steps can be skipped;
or Playwright's own --last-failed and test filters, used per spec.
Constraints:
The full journey still runs at the moments the test strategy names (module done, build complete, before deploy), so the shortcut only applies inside a fix loop.
A step that depends on earlier state must declare it (requires / leaves, which already exist), or the rerun refuses.
Value: shorter fix rounds in the UI loop. Cost: M. Context cost: none, script-side only.
Fixed in #578 (squash a088b4e): --rerun-failed[=file] and --only=<ids> re-run journeys, plus the journeys that set up their preconditions. Results go to a separate -rerun.json, and the summary says a full run is still owed. Re-running from a single failing step is not built.
