fix(ri-exchange): exclude convertible RIs with a non-positive duration from cost math - #1187
Conversation
monthlyCostFromConvertibleRI returned 0 when Duration <= 0. reshape's pricing gate treats MonthlyCost <= 0 as "no source pricing" and skips the dollar-units check, so such an RI behaved as free and every cross-family alternative passed unfiltered. The function now returns an error, and convertToExchangeTypes (api) and convertForAutoExchange (server) log a warning and drop that RI from the reshape / auto-exchange inputs. Valid RIs in the same list are unaffected. Two existing fixtures lacked a Duration and now set one. Closes #1181 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Logging alone left an RI with no term length silently without a
recommendation while the instances list still showed it. The reshape
response now carries excluded_ris ({ri_id, reason}) and the reshape view
shows a notice above the table naming them. The server auto-exchange path
keeps log-only exclusion since it has no user-facing response.

The reshape integration fixtures had no Duration, so the new non-positive duration guard excluded them. They now use a 1-year term, and the end-to-end case also asserts an RI without a term is reported in excluded_ris. Refs #1181 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

The notice lived in a sibling slot that the account-resolution error, GCP, Azure and failed-reload paths never cleared, so it could outlive the AWS reshape view it described. Refs #1181 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Summary
Closes #1181
monthlyCostFromConvertibleRIreturned 0 for a convertible RI withDuration <= 0. In cloud-commitments-gopkg/exchange/reshape.go,pricingGatePasses(:679) returns true forMonthlyCost <= 0, andcostComponent(:220) scores it a neutral 0.5. So such an RI acted as free: every cross-family alternative passed the dollar-units gate.2753abdb:monthlyCostFromConvertibleRInow return(float64, error)and error on a non-positive duration.internal/api/handler_ri_exchange.go:1607, feedingAnalyzeReshapingWithRecs(the reshape endpoint).internal/server/handler_ri_exchange.go:249, feedingRunAutoExchange(the auto-exchange task andladder_write.go:59).hoursPerTerm <= 0check is gone; a positive duration cannot produce it.Behaviour change in the auto-exchange path:
RunAutoExchangenever readsMonthlyCost(cloud-commitments-goexchange/auto.go:203calls onlyAnalyzeReshaping). An RI with a non-positive duration used to be auto-exchanged anyway; it is now left out of auto exchanges, with only the warning as signal. This fails safe, since no exchange runs and no money moves. AWS always returns a duration for convertible RIs, so in practice this only hits missing data (aws.ToInt64of nil is 0).Not changed: an RI whose fixed, usage and recurring prices are all zero still costs 0. That is indistinguishable here from a genuinely free price set, so it needs a decision upstream.
Tests
<= -999fails all of them.Duration, which is unrealistic and now gets excluded. They now set a 1-year duration.Verification evidence is posted as PR comments.
