Closes #1284

Test-only change in cmd/configure_gcp_test.go; no behavior change. Items 1-3 of the issue were already covered. Each new test asserts the exact resulting policy.

  • EmptyPolicyCreatesBinding: empty policy gets a single binding with exactly the requested member.
  • MultipleBindingsSameRole: with two unconditional bindings of one role, the member goes to the last one and other bindings are untouched; a member already in the first binding is a no-op.
  • OnlyConditionalAccessErrors: a member bound only via a conditional binding returns the "has only conditional access" error, changed=false, policy unchanged.
  • UnconditionalAmongConditional: member is appended to the unconditional binding between conditional ones; a role with only conditional bindings gets a new unconditional binding.

Verification (run under the heavy lock):

  • go vet ./..., go test -timeout 300s -count=1 ./cmd/..., golangci-lint, and scripts/test-git-secrets-allowlist.sh all pass.
  • Mutation probes (each reverted) fail the expected tests: extra member on new binding, first-instead-of-last unconditional, disabled conditional-access error branch, treating conditional bindings as unconditional.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Tests
    • Expanded coverage for adding members to cloud policy bindings, including empty policies and multiple bindings for the same role.
    • Added validation for conditional-only access scenarios and combinations of conditional and unconditional bindings.
    • Verified that existing unconditional access remains unchanged when additional access is requested.
    • Improved assertions to confirm complete policy binding results when new bindings are created.

Add exact-policy tests for an empty policy, multiple bindings of one role,
the only-conditional-access error branch, and an unconditional binding
among conditional ones.

📝 Walkthrough

The change expands unit test coverage for addMemberToPolicyBinding. The tests check complete policy bindings and cover empty policies, duplicate role bindings, and conditional access.

Explanation

All changed code is test code in cmd/configure_gcp_test.go and targets addMemberToPolicyBinding. The conditional-binding tests support policy-preservation and access-error behavior of the same helper. No SDK round-trip mocking or unrelated production change was added.

Explanation

Issue #1284 requires a table-driven test in cmd/configure_gcp_test.go that covers cases 1-5. The PR adds separate test functions instead. The tests cover the required behaviors, including empty policy, existing members, missing roles, duplicate roles, and conditional bindings, but they do not meet the required table-driven test structure.

Resolution

Add or refactor the addMemberToPolicyBinding coverage into a table-driven test that includes issue #1284 cases 1-5 and asserts the expected changed, error, and complete policy state.

Assert the full binding list when creating a missing binding, use an exact
error message, and cover a conditional binding followed by an unconditional
one for the same member (no-op, no error).

Assert the conditional-access error without fixing its full wording.

require.EqualError makes this test fail if the explanatory text changes but the error behavior stays the same. Check the distinguishing conditional-access text, member, and role instead. Based on learnings, “prefer checking the error type/class (and only essential distinguishing fields) rather than matching exact error message text, unless the message is a documented part of the API contract.”

Use an independent condition in the unchanged-policy assertion.

The expected binding reuses cond, which is also in policy.Bindings. If the helper mutates a condition field, both sides of this assertion see the new value. Copy the condition before the call and use that copy in the expected binding.

Update the test setup around the policy helper call to deep-copy cond before
invoking the helper, then use the independent copy in the expected binding
assertion. Keep the existing policy.Bindings assertion and unchanged-policy
expectation intact while ensuring mutations to the original condition cannot
affect both sides.

Merge gate verdict (claude-cc-libs)

Every gate holds at head 2925f18:

  • Two independent reviews approve the reviewed head dd31d4e. The branch was then updated from main, and the PR diff is byte-identical to the reviewed diff (compared mechanically).
  • CI is green on 2925f18, which is the reviewed change on top of current main.
  • 0 unresolved threads; MERGEABLE/CLEAN.

CodeRabbit is waived as a merge gate under the 2026-10-19 decision. Squash-merging.
