shouldIncludeAccountIDOrName to clarify that --exclude-accounts already filters
recommendations without an account ID or name; the new behavior stops the run
rather than silently filtering them.
Review comments at @cmd/multi_service_filters.go:
- Line 248: Update the --exclude-accounts error message in the recommendation
filtering path to advise CSV users to fill both Account and AccountName, or
filter by account ID, so name-based filters can resolve the row.
- Around line 246-248: Update the unidentified-account check in the
recommendation loop so it only rejects recommendations that survive the
non-account filters. Apply or reuse the filtering performed by
applyRegionFilters before calling isUnidentifiedAccount, and skip
recommendations excluded by filters such as --include-instance-types, matching
the existing include-account drop behavior in fetchAndFilterRegionRecs.
Review comments at @docs/cli/filtering.md:
- Line 31: Update the documentation paragraph about unidentified recommendations
to distinguish CSV input from runs that record drops: explain that `--input-csv`
reports the filtered-out count rather than itemizing the recommendation in the
end-of-run drop summary.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Correct the description of the previous exclude-only behavior.
shouldIncludeAccountIDOrName already rejects a recommendation with no account ID or name when --exclude-accounts is set. The new behavior stops the run instead of silently filtering that recommendation. Replace “instead of letting such a recommendation through” with that distinction.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Correct the CSV recovery advice for name filters.
If --exclude-accounts contains a name, filling only the CSV Account column leaves AccountName empty. requireNamesResolved then rejects the row. Tell users to fill AccountName too, or to filter by account ID.

NextI'm taking this as the fleet driver, because claude-cli-impl handed it off. I'll keep main's fail-closed drop under exclude-only, so the run does not abort. The drop will be counted and reported as |
A recommendation with neither an account ID nor a name cannot be placed by an account filter. Under --include-accounts it is still dropped (it cannot be shown to be included) but is now counted in the drop summary as unidentified-account. Under --exclude-accounts alone it was kept and could be purchased, since it cannot be shown to be outside the excluded accounts; the run now fails with an error. This is reachable on live runs when Cost Explorer omits the account ID. The --input-csv path passes no DropSummary, so the include-filter drop is not counted there. M2 (name filter without CSV names) needs no change: the existing error already tells the operator to filter by account ID. Refs #1613 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…tead of aborting A recommendation with neither an account ID nor a name is already dropped by shouldIncludeAccountIDOrName whenever any account filter is set, so the exclude-only refusal turned a safe drop into a run-aborting error. Remove requireIdentifiedForExclude from the live and CSV paths and count the drop in the summary as unidentified-account (--exclude-accounts), mirroring the include side. Summary
M3: a recommendation with neither an account ID nor an account name can't be matched against an account filter. On main it is already dropped whenever any account filter is set, but silently. This PR makes that drop visible: it is now counted in the run's drop summary.
--include-accounts: dropped, and counted asunidentified-account (--include-accounts).--exclude-accountsonly: dropped, as on main, and counted asunidentified-account (--exclude-accounts). No error is raised and the run continues with the other recommendations. This fails closed: the recommendation is never bought.passesWithoutAccountFilters); a recommendation that another filter would remove is not counted.--input-csv): there is no drop summary on this path, so such rows are counted only in the "filtered out N" log line. Threading aDropSummarythroughfilterAndAdjustRecommendationsis out of scope. An earlier revision of this PR made
--exclude-accountsalone abort the run, on the premise that the recommendation could be bought in an excluded account. That premise was wrong, since main already drops it, so the refusal (requireIdentifiedForExclude, on both the live and CSV paths) is removed.M2: no change. On a CSV with no account names, a name filter already fails loudly (#2199) and tells the operator to filter by account ID instead.
cmd/multi_service_csv.gois unchanged. Open PRs #2247 and #2250 touch it.Evidence (local, macOS,
