Some applications does it by, lets say, add a empty folder named "portable", where all it's settings goes to, if this folder is detected, as a truly portable thing would do.
(It's settings are located in "user\AppData\Local" and "user\AppData\Roaming" respectively, since I'm using Windows 11.)
Why / when would you use it?
Looked for a switch that make it portable in the settings, or as stated previously, make an empty folder named "portable" and it's settings goes there automatically, if it's detected.
Ideas for how it could work
Any questions?
If anything isn't clear enough, please ask what isn't exactly and I'll gladly help further!
Thanks for the request! Today the portable ZIP only means "no installer": its settings still go to %APPDATA%\Filee and the downloaded engines to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Filee.
There is a way to keep everything next to the program already, through an environment variable Filee reads: FILEE_DATA_DIR. With it, settings, presets, logs and downloaded engines all go to that folder. Put a Filee-portable.cmd next to Filee.exe:
@echo off
set "FILEE_DATA_DIR=%~dp0data"
start "" "%~dp0Filee.exe"
and start Filee with it. A copy started this way also leaves the system alone: it doesn't add itself to startup or to Explorer's right-click menu, which is what you'd want from a portable copy.
A built-in switch for this (for example a portable folder next to Filee.exe, as you suggest) would be nicer, so I'll keep this open as a request.

Awesome, thank you! Works as intended.
