   • Update portable update script to use a temp file in the target directory.
   • Swap via rename, keep a backup, and rollback to backup if replace fails.
   • Clean up temp/backup on success.

   Risks:

   • If antivirus locks the exe during swap, replacement may fail; ensure rollback is attempted.

   Tests:

   • npm ci
   • npm run lint
   • npm test
   • npm run build
   • npm run package
   • npm run smoke:exe
