Backend Engineer  ·  Python & Django  ·  Fintech and AI

Top Rated on Upwork

I write backends where being wrong costs money. Last year I worked on Surmount, a US automated investing platform: one Django backend serving four brands, placing real trades through Alpaca and SnapTrade. Order reconciliation, withdrawable cash rules, partner SSO. Before that, four LLM systems shipped to real users.

Most of my work lives in private client repos, so this profile is thin on purpose. My Upwork profile and my site show what I actually ship.

Backend

A year on a live US investing platform, on the parts that move real money. One Django backend served Surmount plus three white label brands: tenant isolation, per tenant config, feature flags, one shared migration graph.

The work I would want to be asked about: fixing order reconciliation where completed sells were being logged as failures, rewriting the rule that decides how much cash a user can actually withdraw, and building partner sign in over OpenID Connect with a mock provider so the hand off could be tested before the partner shipped theirs.

Fintech: SnapTrade and Alpaca brokerage integrations across multiple market indexes, with SSO for auth.

AI Agents

Four LLM systems shipped to real users, not demos: a medicine condition checker, script generation with automatic video matching, post moderation, and a podcast generator. Multi agent orchestration, routing, memory, human in the loop, and streaming over server sent events and WebSockets.

Plenty of RAG, with FAISS, Qdrant, Pinecone and Chroma. I own the backends these run on, so I can talk about token cost, retry semantics, and what happens when a model returns garbage at 2am.

Frontend

Where I started, and three years of it. Began with CSS and SCSS, moved to Tailwind early in 2021, and have used shadcn/ui since its early days (Ant Design and Headless UI before that). REST, GraphQL and TanStack Query, plus interactive canvas work with Fabric.js.

I do not go looking for frontend work now, but it is the reason I design APIs that are pleasant to consume.

Mobile

8 months with React Native. Shipped 5+ apps, including ShowCoach, live on both the App Store and Google Play, with in-app purchases for both one-time products and subscriptions. Not my primary focus, but I can take a mobile app from build to store.

Also worked with

Chrome extensions built with Vite (custom build setup for extension bundling), plus marketing and email tooling.

HubSpot email funnels and pixel integrations, and transactional email with SendGrid.

How I build

I work with AI in the loop. I've used Cursor, Trae, Google AI Studio, Codex, and Antigravity, and Claude Code is my current daily driver.

My everyday toolkit: iTerm2, Claude Code, PyCharm, VS Code, and a pen and paper.
