As a child I tried to finish GTA Vice City at 12 or 13 frames per second on a low end computer. Around that time my father told me about machine code, and my interest in optimisation began.
While studying physics I started working as a bartender to make a living. I worked everywhere from Michelin starred restaurants to understaffed bars where crisis was routine. There I adopted the idea of a small team with a heavy load, but a happy one. I saw that with the right balance of workload people can do far more than they expect. The urge to solve that puzzle brought me back to science, and from there to communication and philosophy.
In painting, my old passion, I noticed that abstraction can carry lived experience as a whole, and that this connects to the rest of my work. That is when I began studying physics and mathematics. Writing in notebooks, building systems and design have always mattered to me, so I work with Boolean logic, assembly and C. Python feels like speaking to me. I am not very good at speaking, because I have always loved being precise. When things are not precise, I have a way of fooling myself that invents excuses for my attention to drift.
Lighting designers around me, my love of drawing, and the realisation that the logic behind John Carmack's graphics breakthroughs is what artists and mathematicians do every day, led me to want to understand how programs built on simple, known theories actually work. My fascination with reading binary and hex brought me here. These days I am learning Braille and Morse code.
I feel I am getting closer to the secret of the world. As you get closer, you realise on the road itself that there is no secret.
