Summary

Correct the English and Turkish CI/CD JSON-output documentation and show CI gates for single-stage training and multi-stage pipelines that reject unsuccessful results.

Related issues

Fixes #433 — CR-A04-008: incorrect training result key and stdout event-stream claim.
Fixes #216 — DOC-D3B02-016: the training example reads a nonexistent .verdict field.

The runtime stdout-pollution issue remains tracked separately in #412. This PR changes documentation, the guide viewer and regression tests; it does not fix third-party output during a real training run. Both manuals disclose the limitation. The unrelated audit recipes belong to #357 and are unchanged.

Changes

  • Keep the .success display example, explain its boolean type, and link both manuals to the canonical JSON schemas.
  • Capture ForgeLM and jq statuses separately with PIPESTATUS. Preserve non-zero ForgeLM codes, reserve approval routing for the producer's exit 4, and normalize JSON validation failures after producer success to wrapper exit 1 (F-PR1073-A1-01).
  • Document the separate multi-stage final_status summary and reject stopped or approval-gated pipelines. Update the canonical JSON reference in both languages with its eight actual state fields, four status values, and an explicit exception to the common success wrapper.
  • Move the documentation regression to tests/test_usermanual_reference_consistency.py, compare the complete section while allowing line wrapping, and validate the documented query keys against the real envelope builders.
  • Cover successful, failed, and awaiting-approval training envelopes; preserve the plain-text stderr logging check and remove historical review notes from tests.
  • Use compiled page-qualified heading links and preserve the page/heading through the guide click handler, renderer, and reload path (F-PR1073-A2-01). Test both compiled EN/TR pages in the Node VM harness, including modified and non-primary clicks that must retain native behavior.
  • Add the Unreleased changelog entry. Preserve the contributor's original commit and append the maintainer follow-up without rewriting history.

Type

  • Documentation
  • Bug fix
  • Test coverage

Testing

  • Full canonical gauntlet from AGENTS.md passed on Python 3.13.14: 6,751 passed, 98 skipped, package coverage 87.90%.
  • Workflow-script coverage gate: 600 tests passed, combined coverage 95.91% (minimum 90%).
  • All 85 Node site tests passed.
  • ruff format ., ruff check ., config-template dry run, strict public API mypy check, all canonical guards, and the Bandit severity gate passed.
  • Focused CLI and manual-consistency suite: 239 passed.
  • The CI/CD section and canonical-reference regressions failed before their respective EN/TR documentation changes and passed afterwards.
  • Both manuals compiled successfully (67 pages in each language); the edited prose is wrapped to 120 columns.
  • 36 committed Bash/jq cases execute the shipped EN/TR snippets under errexit: success, upstream failure, both approval shapes, empty/malformed/missing JSON, and the real CLI usage-error path. Assertions check exact exit codes and hold classification, including unsuccessful envelopes from a producer that exits zero.

On 20f9752, all seven required checks passed: lint, validate, Python 3.10–3.13 tests, and Issue dependencies (CI run). The manual build also passed, and Sourcery approved the latest commit.

CodeRabbit completed its full review of 3c09578 successfully. Both suggested test-coverage follow-ups are addressed in 20f9752; its fresh check is neutral because of the hourly review limit, so it is not a new CodeRabbit approval. Legacy pure-anchor migration beyond these two JSON-reference links is tracked separately in #1074.

Checklist

  • Code follows the project's style and coding standard.
  • English and Turkish documentation are updated together.
  • Regression tests cover the corrected documentation and result contract.
  • Markdown is declared under the development extra for compiling the navigation-test fixtures; no new runtime dependency is added.
  • [x] Config template updated — not applicable; no config fields change.
  • CHANGELOG entry under [Unreleased].
  • Both closing issues are triaged and have no blocked label.

Summary by Sourcery

Correct CI/CD JSON documentation and regression coverage so training and multi-stage pipeline results are parsed and gated according to their actual contracts.

Bug Fixes:

  • Correct the English and Turkish CI/CD documentation to use the boolean training success field and accurately describe stdout, stderr, approval, and pipeline-state behavior.

Enhancements:

  • Add CI gate examples that distinguish ForgeLM exit statuses from JSON validation failures and require successful completion for multi-stage pipelines.
  • Document the canonical multi-stage pipeline JSON state, including its fields, status values, and exception to the common success wrapper.
  • Improve guide navigation so section links preserve routes and scroll targets across navigation and reloads.

Build:

  • Add the Markdown dependency required to compile manuals in documentation regression tests.

Documentation:

  • Update the Unreleased changelog and keep English and Turkish CI/CD and JSON-output references aligned with the runtime contracts.

Tests:

  • Add regression coverage for training envelopes, logging streams, documented CI gates, pipeline-state schemas, and guide navigation.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation

    • Clarified JSON output formats for single-stage and pipeline runs, including their status fields and stdout/stderr behavior.
    • Added CI examples that validate results while preserving ForgeLM and JSON-parser exit codes, including approval holds and invalid output.
    • Documented pipeline status values and related output details in English and Turkish.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Guide section links now retain their route and scroll to the correct heading after navigation or reload.

Walkthrough

The English and Turkish manuals now document training and pipeline JSON status fields, output streams, and CI gates. Tests check the documented examples and logging behavior. The guide router now handles route-qualified heading links and scrolls to matching headings.

Changes: CI/CD JSON output documentation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Document JSON output contracts
docs/usermanuals/en/operations/cicd.md, docs/usermanuals/tr/operations/cicd.md, docs/usermanuals/en/reference/json-output.md, docs/usermanuals/tr/reference/json-output.md
The manuals distinguish the training success field from pipeline final_status. They describe stdout and stderr behavior, pipeline summary fields, and the possibility of non-JSON output before the envelope.
Add and validate CI gates
docs/usermanuals/en/operations/cicd.md, docs/usermanuals/tr/operations/cicd.md, tests/test_cli.py, tests/test_usermanual_reference_consistency.py, docs/standards/testing.md, CHANGELOG.md
The manuals add separate Bash gates for training and pipeline results. Tests check documented fields, exit statuses, approval messaging, and logging streams. Testing guidance describes the documentation regression checks. The changelog records the updates.

Guide heading navigation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Handle route-qualified heading links
site/js/guide.js, tests/site/guide_navigation.test.cjs, pyproject.toml
The router separates route state from heading fragments, handles eligible route-qualified links, and scrolls to matching headings. Tests check navigation and reload behavior for English and Turkish pages. The development dependency adds Markdown support for compiling manual pages.

Explanation

[#433, #216] Both issues require the same docs fix. The English manual (docs/usermanuals/en/operations/cicd.md, whole-PR diff) replaces the jq '.verdict' example with jq '.success' and shows output true. The .success field is boolean, as the training envelope builder shows. The stdout event-stream claim is removed. The text states that the JSON envelope goes to stdout and logs stay plain text on stderr, and that JSON mode does not mirror log events to stdout. The Turkish mirror carries the same corrections, and the regression test pins both language sections to the same contract. Regression coverage exists for the acceptance criterion in #433: test_cicd_json_section_matches_result_contracts checks the full section against _build_result_json_envelope and the pipeline serializer, and test_cicd_bash_preserves_producer_status runs the shipped gates under errexit with real jq. The runtime stdout pollution is a separate finding. The manual discloses it with a link to #412, and this PR does not change runtime behavior. That disclosure is an explicit reason for the remaining item, so the #433 acceptance criterion is met for this PR. The #216 proposed correction (.success) is applied in both languages. Non-coding acceptance items (manual re-check, issue closure) do not affect this verdict. Evidence limit: I read the English manual diff and the test module head file, but not the Turkish diff or the guide navigation code. The Turkish and navigation checks rely on the PR summary and the test names.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

Every changed area supports the #433 and #216 documentation objective or verifies it. The CI/CD manual changes add the .success example and the single-stage and multi-stage Bash gates. The json-output reference changes document the pipeline final_status contract that the multi-stage gate reads. The CHANGELOG entry, the markdown dev dependency in pyproject.toml, and the testing standard section support the compiled-manual regression tests. The tests in tests/test_cli.py and tests/test_usermanual_reference_consistency.py verify the documented envelope and logging contract. The guide.js and tests/site changes add route and heading handling for the page-qualified JSON-reference links that the manuals now use. Those links are part of the documentation change. No runtime code outside the CLI result contract is shown to change. The runtime stdout pollution fix is excluded and tracked in #412. Minor note: the PR text and the objectives report different counts for Node site tests (85 vs 83) and Bash/jq cases (32 vs 24). These counts do not change the scope verdict.

<issue_to_address>
**Failed runs pass shell checks**

When a CI job uses the documented pipeline's exit status as its gate and the training result has `success: false`, `jq '.success'` prints `false` but exits 0 for that boolean; in a shell without `pipefail`, the pipeline therefore succeeds even though `forgelm` returned a failure, allowing a CI job that treats this example's status as its gate to continue.

Use `jq -e '.success'` and document `pipefail` (or otherwise explicitly check the field and preserve ForgeLM's exit status).

**Pipeline runs lack documented success field**

When the config contains a `pipeline:` block, `_dispatch_pipeline_mode` sends pipeline configs to the orchestrator, which emits a serialized `PipelineState` with `final_status` and no `success` key. The documented `jq '.success'` therefore returns `null` for multi-stage runs, so CI cannot branch on the documented boolean.

Document the pipeline summary’s actual status field separately, or make pipeline JSON output provide the documented boolean `success` field.

**Contradictory event claim passes**

When an EN or TR manual states the same false stdout-event claim in different wording, `test_cicd_manual_documents_success_not_a_stdout_event_stream` rejects only two exact phrases at lines 616–617, so a differently worded claim such as “stderr events are mirrored as JSON on stdout” passes alongside the required clarifying prose, leaving the manual contradictory.

Check the section against an expected complete version or otherwise ensure equivalent contradictory claims are rejected.

When the new manual text is read, both new explanatory lines exceed the approximately 120-character prose limit, making the CI/CD manual less readable.

Hi @Mr-Neutr0n, thank you for contributing this fix and for updating both the English and Turkish manuals together.

I reviewed e5dc530 against #433, its maintainer implementation guidance, and the overlapping #216. I also checked all three changed files against the result-envelope builder, JSON logging setup, training dispatch, and canonical JSON reference.

Assessment: the two original documentation errors in #433 are corrected: the training example reads the boolean success field, and both manuals remove the claim that stderr events are mirrored as JSON on stdout. The regression coverage is meaningful: I checked that the new documentation assertions fail against the base-branch text in both languages and pass against this PR. The unrelated audit recipes were correctly left unchanged.

There are a few additional completion items from the agreed issue guidance:

  1. Add the requested canonical-schema link in both manuals. The paragraphs at EN line 153 and TR line 154 omit the requested #/reference/json-output link. Please add the localized link to the JSON output schemas. It connects this short example to the complete contract, including awaiting_approval, where success remains true while the process exits 4.
  2. Add the requested release note. CHANGELOG.md has no entry for this change. Please add a concise bullet under [Unreleased] → Fixed explaining the corrected CI/CD JSON documentation and referencing CR-A04-008 / DOC-D3B02-016. This is explicitly requested in the issue guidance and makes the user-visible correction discoverable in the release history.
  3. Complete the issue references and scope note. Please add a separate Fixes #216 alongside Fixes #433, with both finding IDs, as requested by the maintainer. Also include the requested note that real training stdout pollution remains tracked separately in Training --output-format json stdout is not a JSON document: print_trainable_parameters and HF Trainer log dicts precede the envelope (CR-A03-008) #412. The new tests exercise the result renderer and logger independently; they do not establish that an entire training run produces clean JSON stdout, so the PR description should keep that distinction clear.

The documentation regression currently lives in tests/test_cli.py rather than the issue's suggested tests/test_usermanual_reference_consistency.py; the required EN/TR coverage is present, so I consider this an organizational difference rather than a functional blocker.

Validation on the reviewed commit:

  • Full pytest tests/ -q: 6,711 passed, 98 skipped, with 87.90% coverage (Python 3.13.14).
  • Focused CLI, manual-consistency, and strict-JSON suite: 252 passed.
  • ruff check ., ruff format --check ., and the config-template JSON dry run passed.
  • 13 strict validation guards passed, covering import origin, bilingual headings/code blocks, anchors, Turkish mirror links, manual link isolation, CLI syntax/exit-code prose, YAML/schema consistency, source-path references, numerical claims, and public-reference hygiene.

GitHub's CI run and manual-validation run currently report action_required, with no jobs run yet. Maintainer approval is needed before their results can be assessed; local checks do not establish a green GitHub test matrix.

I have kept these additional notes separate from the existing CodeRabbit and Sourcery findings rather than repeating their review comments. The core fix is in place; the completion items above should be addressed before treating the agreed issue work as fully finished.

Thank you again for your time and contribution. We'd be happy to see more contributions from you. If you find ForgeLM useful, a GitHub star and sharing the project with people who might benefit from it would also be very welcome—entirely optional, of course.

Resolve CR-A04-008 and DOC-D3B02-016 for HodeTech#433 and HodeTech#216.

Document distinct training and pipeline result contracts, add Bash gates
that reject false results and non-zero producer exits, and link the EN/TR
manuals to the canonical JSON schema. Pin the complete JSON sections to
prevent contradictory event-stream claims and validate their query keys
against the real envelope builders. Remove historical review notes from
the regression tests and add the missing changelog record.

Keep the separate runtime stdout-pollution problem tracked in HodeTech#412.

Thank you again @Mr-Neutr0n for the original contribution. I added a maintainer follow-up in 691d8cd and bb72d53 to complete the review items while preserving your original commit.

Local verification: the full canonical gauntlet passed, with 6,715 tests passed, 98 skipped, 87.90% package coverage, 600 workflow-script tests and 95.91% coverage, 83 site tests, and all required guards, lint, typing, dry-run, and the Bandit severity gate. Both manuals compiled, and 24 Bash/jq cases checked the documented gate behavior.

GitHub CI and the manual build passed on the final commit, including all four Python versions. All seven review threads are resolved and the PR reports a clean merge state. The latest CodeRabbit run was rate-limited (neutral); its earlier finding is resolved, and Sourcery passed on the final commit.

The PR remains open for the final merge decision, with the contributor's work and attribution preserved.

Address F-PR1073-A1-01 by capturing ForgeLM and jq statuses separately.
Only the producer's exit 4 signals an approval hold; JSON-consumer failures
after producer success exit 1, and all non-zero producer codes retain
priority. Exercise the shipped EN/TR Bash snippets with real jq, including
the real CLI usage-error path and serialized training/pipeline outcomes.

Address F-PR1073-A2-01 with page-qualified compiled heading links and guide
routing that separates page lookup from heading fragments. Test compiled
EN/TR HTML through the real click handler, router, renderer and reload
path. Declare Markdown as a development-only test dependency.

Nitpick Add a zero-exit success: false case to the training gate test.

161-164: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win

Add a zero-exit success: false case to the training gate test.

The failure case exits 3. The producer-status check rejects it before the jq check runs. No training case runs the gate with producer exit 0 and success: false. A regression that accepts an unsuccessful result at exit 0 would not fail these tests. Such a regression can also pass the {} missing case, because that payload is rejected for a different reason.

Add an unsuccessful case to the parametrization. Make its envelope success: false while its producer exits 0. Expect exit 1.

Suggested fix
-            TrainResult(success=case != "failure", awaiting_approval=case == "approval")
+            TrainResult(success=case not in {"failure", "unsuccessful"}, awaiting_approval=case == "approval")

Update the training gate test around _build_result_json_envelope to add an
unsuccessful case with success set to false and producer exit status 0; include
it in the parametrization and assert the gate exits with status 1. Preserve the
existing failure and approval cases.
Nitpick Cover modified and non-primary clicks in the navigation test.

97-104: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win

Cover modified and non-primary clicks in the navigation test.

The content-link click handler at site/js/guide.js:254 returns early for button > 0 and for Ctrl, Meta, Shift, or Alt clicks. tests/site/guide_navigation.test.cjs dispatches only primary clicks (button: 0, no modifier keys). Removing the guard would not fail any test, so a regression that intercepts modified clicks would not be detected.

Add cases for Ctrl, Meta, Shift, Alt, and middle-button (button: 1) clicks on a content link. For each case, assert that preventDefault is not called and that the route does not change.

@Mr-Neutr0n, thank you again for the original contribution. I have pushed a follow-up in 3c09578, with test follow-ups in 20f9752 to address the two additional review findings:

  • F-PR1073-A1-01: both EN/TR CI recipes capture ForgeLM and jq statuses separately with PIPESTATUS. Only the ForgeLM producer's exit 4 is routed to an approval hold; other producer failures retain their codes. JSON validation failures after producer success return wrapper exit 1. The regression executes the shipped snippets in real Bash with real jq, including the actual CLI usage-error path and serialized training/pipeline outcomes (36 cases).
  • F-PR1073-A2-01: both JSON-reference links use page-qualified routes and the actual compiled heading IDs. The guide router separates page lookup from the heading fragment and restores the scroll target after rendering. The Node VM tests compile both reference pages with the manual builder and exercise the shipped click handler, renderer, repeat clicks, reload path, and native modified/non-primary clicks.

Validation: the full local gauntlet passed (6,751 Python tests, 85 Node site tests); the focused CLI/manual suite passed 239 tests, and both manuals compiled (67 pages per language). Workflow-script coverage is 95.91%, above the required 90%.

On 20f9752, all seven required GitHub checks are green, including the Python 3.10–3.13 matrix (CI run). The manual build also passed. Sourcery approved this commit. CodeRabbit completed its full review of 3c09578; its fresh check for the test-only follow-up is neutral due to the hourly review limit.

Both CodeRabbit test-coverage suggestions from the 3c09578 review are addressed. The added tests were also checked against deliberate regressions: a permissive training query and removal of the click-modifier guard both made the relevant tests fail.

The two changed links are fixed. The wider inventory and migration of older pure-anchor links is tracked separately in #1074; the previously documented runtime stdout limitation remains in #412. The PR continues to close #433 and #216.

We appreciate your help improving ForgeLM. Further contributions are always welcome; if the project is useful to you, please consider starring it and sharing it with others who may be interested.
