What is BitFun?

BitFun is a local-first agent workspace for coding, knowledge work, creation, and personal assistance. It combines capable agents with an integrated desktop workbench, customizable extensions, and multi-device access.

Is BitFun an AI IDE?

It can serve as an AI-native coding workspace, but the product is broader than an IDE. Cowork supports documents, presentations, spreadsheets, PDFs, research, and visual creation; Claw supports persistent personal assistants; Mini Apps and remote access extend the experience further.

Which operating systems are supported?

The primary desktop product supports Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Is BitFun open source?

Yes. BitFun is available under the MIT License.

Is it free?

The open-source application is free to use under its license. You may still incur costs from model providers, cloud services, tunnels, infrastructure, or other third-party services you choose to connect.

Do I need a BitFun account?

No account is required for core local desktop use. Account-based device control, selected synchronization, and Pages require BitFun account services.

Which models can I use?

BitFun supports several popular model API families, a changing list of provider presets, custom endpoints, and supported subscription sign-in flows. Check the model settings in your installed version for the current list.

Can BitFun run entirely offline?

Many workspace and desktop functions are local. Complete offline agent use depends on the model endpoint, speech option, tools, and extensions you choose. A cloud model, web search, remote service, or cloud speech recognizer naturally requires a network connection.

Does BitFun upload my project?

BitFun does not require uploading a whole project to a BitFun account for core local use. However, relevant content can be sent to the model provider or external service needed for a request. Review your provider, tool, MCP, remote, and extension choices before using sensitive data.

Can I use BitFun for non-coding work?

Yes. Cowork is designed for research, writing, planning, office files, analysis, PDFs, presentations, spreadsheets, and visual explanations.

Can it create editable deliverables?

Yes. Supported workflows can produce editable documents, presentations, and spreadsheets, as well as PDFs and web-based visual experiences. Always inspect the final artifact before delivery.

Can I use my phone?

Yes. Pair a mobile browser by QR code to view and continue sessions, send messages and images, switch workspaces, follow tool activity, and control supported desktop flows. Broader native mobile coverage is still evolving.

Can BitFun work on a remote machine?

Yes. Supported remote workspaces include SSH hosts and several SSH/container combinations. The explorer, terminal, agent, search, Git, and file transfer experiences follow the selected target.

Can I connect messaging apps?

BitFun includes connectors for selected workflows through Telegram, Feishu, and WeChat/iLink. Exact behavior depends on the platform, bot configuration, workspace, and permissions.

What are Skills, MCP, and Mini Apps?

• Skills package reusable knowledge and workflow instructions.
• MCP connects agents to additional tools, resources, and prompts.
• Mini Apps give focused workflows their own interactive interface inside BitFun.

Together with custom Agents, they let you extend BitFun without changing the core product.

Can BitFun use capabilities from other agent tools?

External Sources is a Beta feature for selective compatibility with supported OpenCode, Claude Code, and Codex capabilities. It is not universal plugin compatibility, and every external capability should be reviewed before use.

What is the difference between Mini Apps and Pages?

Mini Apps run inside BitFun as installed interactive experiences. Pages is a Preview publishing capability for versioned static experiences that may be private, account-restricted, or public.

How much autonomy does an Agent have?

You choose. Approval-oriented modes can ask before crossing permission boundaries; remembered rules can allow known actions; Full Access can reduce interruptions for trusted work. Custom Agents can also be constrained to selected tools or kept read-only.

Is remote traffic encrypted?

Paired payload content is end-to-end encrypted with ephemeral session keys. Connection metadata is not the same as payload content and may still be visible to relevant infrastructure. See Security and privacy.

Is every feature production-ready?

No. BitFun is an active 0.x project. Core desktop experiences are available now, while Pages, External Sources, wider mobile coverage, Lights-Out Factory, and other forward-looking work have explicit Preview, Beta, or In progress status.

Where should I report bugs or request features?

Use GitHub Issues. Search first when possible, then include your operating system, BitFun version, what you expected, what happened, and steps to reproduce.

How do I report a security problem?

Use GitHub’s private vulnerability reporting. Do not publish exploit details or sensitive data in a public issue.

How can I contribute?

Read the Contributing guide, join the discussion in the repository, and start with an issue whose scope you understand. Documentation, testing, design feedback, integrations, Skills, and focused fixes are all valuable contributions.
