Set TOOLS explicitly in the preflight test.
T now defaults to $REPO/scripts/ops, but the test leaves TOOLS unset and expects the old $RD/tools/prepare_record.py path. When the test reaches preflight, the repository tools pass, so that assertion no longer matches.

open_round_v2 rejects a request when body.d_open <= now. The current code fetches now_round before the state restoration, hashing, and serialization work. That work can make the computed d_open stale and cause the request to fail. Fetch now_round immediately before computing d.

The offsets() docstring gives the wrong upload window.
The docstring says "upload +600". The code sets d_upload = commit + 200, which is audit + 180. The generated offsets are [150, 300, 1324, 1344, 1524, 1544]. Operators who read the docstring will expect a 600-round upload window that does not exist. Correct the docstring so it matches the code.

Base the default seed-job deadline on qualification timing.
The default deadline is now + 4 * 3600 (14,400 seconds), but the profile allows 16,464 seconds for qualification. Qualification starts from admitted_unix, which is set after the seed manifest is built. If admission occurs more than 2,136 seconds later, the second qualification round can reach the seed job's deadline and fail. Derive the default from qualification_deadline_seconds plus an explicit provisioning margin instead of using a fixed four-hour value.

Restrict the peS2o pattern to training files.
data/v2/*.json.gz matches peS2o v2 validation files as well as training files. The dataset publishes both splits under data/v2/, so this pattern adds validation rows to the training-data source. Use data/v2/train-*.json.gz for this source. (huggingface.co)

Validate a fetched manifest before caching it.
If the first base returns malformed JSON or a manifest with roots that differ from the signed dataset roots, _dataset_manifest still installs that response as manifest.json. Parsing or validation then fails, and the next attempt reads the same cached file instead of trying another base. Parse and validate each candidate against the run dataset before promoting it to the local path; continue to the next base when validation fails.

A malformed theta header raises errors that skip the full-download fallback.
The theta ref comes from the staged response. fetch_to checks the bytes against that ref. It does not check that the safetensors header has the expected structure. Errors happen in these cases:
- An entry has no
dtype,shapeordata_offsetskey. The code raisesKeyError. - An entry is not a dict. The code raises
TypeError. data_offsetsdoes not unpack into two values. The code raisesValueErrororTypeError.
_local_input catches only StoreError, MinerError, ValueError and httpx.HTTPError. A KeyError or TypeError therefore stops run_round. It does not fall back to the pinned download, which the docstring says happens for "a corrupt or unfetchable theta ref". Check the entry shape and return False when it is wrong. You can also add KeyError and TypeError to the except clause.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win
A failed window re-run blocks every retry of that window.
durable_write opens with O_CREAT | O_EXCL. Each rank writes rank-{rank}/windows/{leaf}.json on its own. A run can fail partway: for example, the launch_window timeout fires, one rank diverges, or a process is killed. In that case some rank files exist and others do not. launch_window re-runs only when all outputs are missing. Each rank that already has its file then raises FileExistsError in durable_write. The window can never finish again, so IslandParty._entries cannot get a trace for that leaf. The dispute is blocked.
Write to a temporary file and rename it into place atomically. Overwriting a stale partial is also acceptable.

Update the window-trace write near `durable_write` so reruns can replace stale
rank output instead of failing with `FileExistsError`. Write to a unique
temporary file in the same directory, then atomically replace the destination
with it; preserve the existing trace serialization.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win
Derive a sufficient lease for slow small-H replays.
When H=30 and step_seconds_bound=16, AuditPolicyV2.validate_training() accepts a 100-round lease. That lease lasts 300 seconds, but a permitted 2H replay can take 960 seconds at the configured bound. Derive a longer lease for this case, or reject step bounds that the fixed lease cannot cover.

Update the lease calculation for small H in AuditPolicyV2.validate_training so
the accepted lease covers a permitted 2H replay at step_seconds_bound, including
H=30 with a bound of 16 seconds; alternatively, reject bounds the fixed lease
cannot cover. Preserve the existing lease behavior for configurations that
remain adequately covered.
