Admission loaded the frozen snapshot (direct-ssh launcher) but deps,
qualification, rescue and roots imported /data/hypertrain-tree, so hosts
were reached through the ssh*.vast.ai proxy (~50 Mbit/s). HT_TREE now
comes from PREP/freeze/freeze.json and leads PYTHONPATH.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • CUDA runs now use the code tree associated with the frozen snapshot when available, with a fallback when the required orchestration file is missing. This helps runs use the intended code while preserving compatibility with existing setups.

📝 Walkthrough

The CUDA launch script now selects its controller tree from the frozen snapshot referenced by $PREP/freeze/freeze.json. If the expected orchestrator is absent, it uses /data/hypertrain-tree. It exports HT_TREE and builds PYTHONPATH from the selected tree.

Changes: CUDA controller tree selection

Change: Bug fix

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 4b22f

The launcher now uses the frozen controller tree in the normal case. However, an inherited HT_TREE setting, or a frozen snapshot missing the orchestrator, silently switches it back to the live /data/hypertrain-tree. That is the tree that caused hosts to be reached through the proxy. The PR could therefore appear to work while still running unfrozen code. Make the frozen path mandatory and fail clearly when it is invalid before merging.

🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Do not select a controller tree outside the frozen snapshot.

If the launcher inherits HT_TREE, Line 73 uses that value instead of the path in freeze.json. Line 74 also switches to /data/hypertrain-tree when the selected tree lacks orchestrate.py. Either path can run controller code outside the admitted snapshot. The PR objective identifies /data/hypertrain-tree as the source of the proxy-routing problem. Read the frozen path unconditionally and fail if its expected orchestrator is missing.
