Every categorical variable in the viewer configuration must declare its reference value explicitly (the healthiest / least-harmful category), with a note describing what the reference represents and where it came from (e.g. cohort minimum, Canadian reference standard, thesis/plot derivation). Coding conventions vary (yes/no), so defaults are error-prone and disallowed.
