…ed Go setup-r also installs R CMD check extras (apt sysreqs on Linux, Fortran and macOS utils on macOS) that the tests don't need. Linux uses distro r-base-core (4.3.3); Posit's release .deb pulls -dev deps and was ~4x slower. x64 runners vary in CPU; native pkgimages restored from cache were rejected on a different CPU, recompiling Revise (~25s) on a random job each run. Pin JULIA_CPU_TARGET=x86-64-v3 there. go-version '>=1.25' matches the runner's preinstalled Go instead of downloading 'stable' when the image lags. setup-rhas no option to skip its R CMD check extras (apt sysreqs on Linux ~21s, Fortran + macOS utils ~16s), so install R directly.r-base-core(R 4.3.3), noapt-get updateunless install failsTradeoff: Linux tests R 4.3.3 instead of current release. Posit's release .deb was tried (30s — it depends on -dev packages).
Julia: x64 runners vary in CPU, so
nativepkgimages restored from cache were rejected on a different CPU and Revise recompiled (18–33s) on one random Windows/Ubuntu job per run.JULIA_CPU_TARGET=x86-64-v3on x64 jobs (all runners have AVX2); macOS staysnative. Two runs after the change: no Revise recompile on any OS (was 1 of 3 jobs per run in the previous 3 runs).
