ASVLCII is a black-and-white Windows media player that redraws photos, video, audio visualizers, and live streams as ASCII characters. The interface stays sharp and monochrome while the ASCII output can preserve the source colour.
- Plays common image, video, and audio files, with FFmpeg support for additional formats
- Receives HTTP(S), HLS, DASH, RTSP/RTSPS, RTMP/RTMPS, SRT, UDP, and RTP streams
- Provides Stable (10 s), Balanced (5 s), and Low Latency (2 s) live buffers
- Broadcasts to Twitch, YouTube, custom RTMP/RTMPS, SRT, UDP/RTP, or protected LAN HLS
- Captures the full desktop or DirectShow camera and microphone devices
- Records broadcasts locally and converts media to MP4, MKV, WebM, MP3, or WAV
- Renders audio-only spectrum, waveform, and VU visualizations
- Supports coloured or monochrome ASCII, nine densities from 40–240 columns, multiple character ramps, zoom, and configurable FPS ceilings
- Includes playback speed with pitch preservation, frame step, A–B repeat, repeat/shuffle, bookmarks, resume positions, favourites, history, and playlist search
- Loads M3U/M3U8/XSPF playlists and external SRT/WebVTT subtitles
- Includes a ten-band equalizer, normalization, mono audio, output-device selection, subtitle/audio delay, and live video adjustments
- Copies ASCII text and exports TXT, PNG, or accelerated ASCII MP4 video with synchronized audio
The latest patch is ASVLCII 2.0.1. It centers Streaming Studio actions, corrects paired-button layouts, improves compact-panel spacing and checkboxes, and adds clear stream URL, ingest server, and private stream-key guidance.

The Windows executables are currently unsigned, so Microsoft SmartScreen may display a warning.
- Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit
- A modern x64 processor
- More processing power may be required for dense or high-FPS ASCII video
Media processing runs locally. The renderer cannot load remote media directly; networking, capture, conversion, and credential handling are isolated in the application process.
Remembered stream keys and OAuth tokens use Windows DPAPI through Electron secure storage. Session-only keys are consumed and erased after use. Packaged builds contain no source maps, personal settings, stream keys, OAuth secrets, or obsolete releases.
