Milkdrop and previous projectM versions displayed the current preset name on the screen whenever it changed. This feature wasn't added yet to the new app. From feedback, many users prefer a "clean screen" approach when using projectM, so this should probably be added as a default-off option.
The easiest way of showing the preset name would be by reusing the "toast" message functionality used for beat sensitivity changes etc., but it's quite prominently shown in the center of the screen. So a more subtle approach might be necessary here, including additional configuration options besides a simple on/off toggle:
- Change the location of the preset name toast
- Change the size and opacity
- Control fade-in/fade-out and display duration
- Change the font, e.g. allow users to select any TTF file for the preset name toast
- Add additional effects like the zoom-in/dissolve effect Milkdrop uses for song titles
