The option to see votes on all communities

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
The Votes Summary tab of the user page allows seeing where votes were received for a particular community, and the Network tab allows seeing current reputation on every community in a single page. However, unless a user has memorised their current reputation on each community that doesn't tell them which communities they have received votes in.

This is the problem I understood Understanding how posts were possibly received by the community --- network wide to be raising, which #284 only seems a partial solution to.

Describe the solution you'd like
An option on the Votes Summary tab to include votes from all communities. Default behaviour is only the current community, as now.

How should the other communities be indicated? Something like this, maybe?

There would still need to be some top-level "show me everything" toggle; while we could always have this section but put it behind an expander, that would be an awfully expensive query to run on spec. Better to wait for the user to ask for it.

The vote total for the other communities would be a single rollup. There comes a point where if you really want the breakdown, you might need to click on some other links.

That looks good, and I agree that we don't need as much information per community as there would be in that community's Votes tab - I was thinking of this as getting an indication that there's something to go and look at.

Another option, that might be useful if communities get more voting activity in future, would be to reduce the amount of information shown for this community once the toggle is switched to show the other communities. Each day could show a total per community, rather than listing every post, with the row being a link to the community-specific Votes tab. That might allow more days to show per page. So you'd have a detailed break down of 1 community, or a rough overview of all of them.

I don't have a preference on which of these approaches to take - just mentioning it for consideration.

Oh, I like that -- don't show the individual posts here, but do show "Code Golf +2, Software Dev +3/-1, ..." and make those links to the votes tab on those communities.

I think that if we did that, we could just always offer it and not require a choice. Something like this (blue text is links):

Personally that would suit me well. I don't know if anyone would prefer not to automatically see votes on other communities. I can imagine someone having one community that they don't want to hear about every time that they look at their votes on Meta. I can also imagine some people preferring only to see the votes on the specific community they are looking at. For some people it might vary by time of day (maybe only seeing votes for Software Development during work time to avoid the temptation to go and look at another community during work time). I may be overthinking this, especially since notifications from other communities would have a similar effect. I'd be happy with either automatic summaries of votes on other communities, or having to press a button to show them.

True, maybe you don't want your shoulder-surfing coworkers to see just how active you are on a games community. Maybe the summary in the header ("+4/-1 others" in this mockup) is an expander that shows the list? (It'd need to go somewhere else; don't want an expander in the middle of the page like that.)

Yes, seeing just totals without the names of which communities seems like a work-proof compromise.

One way of avoiding too much expanding in page (which would otherwise require fetching on expand, or a huge amount of prefetch) might be to have a toggle at the top of the page that switches between the format you've just suggested, maybe called "community view" (focussed on this community with just a summary of other communities without mentioning their names), and a "network view" that doesn't show any of the detail for even this community, but does list each specific community as a total per day. That way you can switch the toggle at the top of the page to "network view" if you do want to see per community totals, and if instead you're viewing the (single) "community view" and you click on "+4/-1 others", it switches to the network format to give you a breakdown per community but without the individual posts of this specific community.

I'm not sure if that would be annoying if you're scrolled a long way down and that switch in view takes you back to the top of the page though. Maybe it would need to link to the specific day in the network view?

Yes that's exactly what I was picturing. Each of the community names is a link to "This community" on the appropriate community.
