Discrepancy in SIMIND simulation noise levels for Ac-225 Kernel Fitting (Tutorial / PMB Paper) #13

Description

@yhhuang98

Hi there,

First of all, thank you so much for developing this toolbox. It is an incredibly valuable tool for the community!

I am currently trying to use the toolbox and SIMIND to perform Ac-225 440 keV SPECT PSF modeling. Following your methodology, I am simulating point source scanning at different source-detector distances and planning to fit it using the 1D operator

However, I have run into an issue at the very first stage regarding the raw Monte Carlo simulation outputs. When I run the simulation using the parameters provided in the tutorial, my raw projection images are significantly noisier than the clean reference files (.h00/.a00 files in the datalarger folder) provided in your tutorial repository.

Your simulations:

My simulations:

Some simulation Details:
Tutorial Version: SIMIND V7.0.3 (Intel Win)
My Version: SIMIND V8.0 (Intel Linux)
Photons: 2,000,000,000 (/26:2000)
Detector Hits: Both your and my .res logs at the same distance show roughly same # of hits.

Despite the .res logs showing statistically identical runs, directly visualizing my raw output file versus the tutorial's raw output file reveals a stark difference in the noise levels. Could you please offer us some advice on this?

Thank you again for your time and for this excellent toolbox!

Rick
