Should I add OpenShell to an Atomic desktop system?

I'm interested in including OpenShell in an Atomic desktop system for developers. I have a few questions:

1. The documentation says that using a containerized OpenShell is the best option for Atomic systems. Are there any advantages to running OpenShell directly in the root namespace (i.e. including it in the Atomic desktop)?
2. The "Software Prerequisites" section of the Support Matrix document hints that local image builds and development workflows are only supported on Docker Engine and not Podman? Is that correct?
3. Is rootless Docker Engine supported?

I am biased as I am one of the maintainers, but you might want to look at nono - it's more efficient, lean and has no need for the infra openshell requires to run.

I'm also interested in this, and maybe the wider question: what is the best practice for using OpenShell on an atomic system (specifically a Fedora ostree-based system)? Install it in my toolbox container and use it from instances of that somehow? Add it to the base system somehow (how?) and run it from there? Set up a separate container type specifically for OpenShell and use it in those containers somehow (how?)
