Thanks to @JacobCarley-NOAA for passing along the information of a new compression library (lz4) available in NetCDF (via Ed Hartnett). More info can be seen:
https://intelligent-data-design-inc.github.io/NEP/md_docs_2compression.html
With that, there are some UFS applications and/or components (e.g., HAFS, UPP @WenMeng-NOAA) would like to test this new NetCDF lz4 compression capability.
Describe the solution you'd like
Wondering if spack-stack can consider enabling/including this NetCDF lz4 compression options.
Additional context
Would like to compare the two NetCDF lz4 and zstd compression options for their performances in terms of file sizes and IO (read/write) speeds for high-resolution UFS applications.
